  • Got about half way through a bottle of Eagle Rare in the past few days. Very nice, but still struggling to come close to the Breckenridge which I brought back from the US. I think it's the nicest bourbon I've ever had (or been able to afford anyway).

  • Breckenridge ? I'm enjoying a bottle of Eagle Rare and was just wondering what might be similar to it. It's very smooth, compared to most of the cheap bourbon which seems to basically be fire water.

  • On the subject of firewater - don't ever waste your money or time on Booker's.

  • Very good.... But at £30 for 200ml, it had better be really.

  • Is there a EU online store selling Kings County?

  • There's a Bourbon casked single malt from Aldi which I'm enjoying atm... Its probably (definitely) more shite than the stuff on this thread, but its not bad.

At home with my dad, we just finished the last of some 1987 single malt. Was perfectly balanced, super smooth and I can't remember the fucking name of it.

  • I got it from my local, Weber & Trings in Bristol. They have an excellent selection of rare and hard to find spirits.
I got some locally distilled Psycopomp barrel aged gin from there for Christmas, which was sublime.
It's a great little shop..... But pricey.

  • Aha ok, Thanks.. I'll keep searching.. Big fan of small volume bourbons..

  • Talisker Storm, last night down from 40 to £30 in Brihxstane Tesco, enough to pique my interest. Glad I did, delicious if perhaps slightly on the salty side which is deliberate given the branding and tasting notes. 46%.

  • Latest additions.

The Larceny was reccomended to me by a mate over in the states.... Have to say I agree with him. It's won loads of awards, and deservedly so in my opinion. Worth a shot if you can find it. Nice big bottle too!

Also spotted some Kings County moonshine in the same shop, and having never tried moonshine thought I'd give it a shot. Turns out it's pretty good, a lot smoother than I thought it would be! Not really an after dinner sipper though...

  • Breckenridge is indeed smoother than Eagle Rare, but not super substantially. But it's flavours are more distinct, as in all the tastes taste better. I don't know what may be of similar smoothness to ER - maybe a Four Roses small batch or one of the Four Roses niche offerings?

  • Okay @Kirth, @youramericanlover, @Aroogah, @hoops, going to be in New York end of next week, midtown Manhattan, bourbon recommendations, wanting to take advantage of the exchange rate, was going to grab a bottle of Woodford or bulleit bourbon, tastes tend towards the sweeter, hit me up....

Also where I can buy said recommendation close to my location

  • Knob Creek is pretty tasty too, Woodford Reserve is bloody lovely tho'... Good choice...

  • Kings County, as posted above is distilled in New York... Brooklyn I think. Very nice Small batch.

My fave so far. It's an old prohibition distillery that was re-opened. Not sure if you can go visit or not...

  • Bulleit can >>>>> in my opinion.
Basically overpriced run of the mill J Dizzle type stuff.

  • ^+1 on the Bulleit being kinda of bland.. If you like sweeter bourbons maybe Noah's mill or Rowan's creek?

There's another NY bourbon called Black Dirt that seem pretty interesting..

Ordered two bottles of Kings County from this place, pretty decent shipping compared to other vendors..

  • been looking at this site
    https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/C-639.aspx#productlist-filter
and comparing and contrasting prices to the couple of off licences/whiskey shops I can find close to me in midtown and there doesn't seem to be that great a difference in price to buying there and buying online here...

Maybe Midtown Manhattan is just a bit pricey all the way around...

    Anyway all suggestions welcome..

  • Been slowly drinking woodford reserve for a few months, very good. ace after dinner with some more food too.

  • I like Hudson's Baby Bourbon made in Tuthilltown distillery

  • not massive on Bourbon but did think this was quite tasty at Christmas
