I've had a couple of drinks, a little muted as I proper fucked my hip up the other night so can hardly move right now. Beer and some auchentoshan classic are helping. The whisky is cheap and easy going much like myself.

Hope you heal soon and the whisky helps!

Vanilla pod, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, cloves and lemon - mix with sugar and leave to strengthen. Then make it up with water. I think the recipe is from Jamie Oliver

Very tasty Xmas gift. Who'd have thought something so good would have come from Tassie.

Kirth, see if you can get some Bowmore Darkest, and I think you should pop a Caol Ila in there too. And my favourite Japanese whisky is Hibiki 17.

Just polished off a Glenfarclas 21 bottle. very nice, but a little too light in flavour for me.

I'm going to open a bottle of Mortlach 1954 in the next week.
I'll let you all know how it goes. (I am very excited!)

The father in law has been plying me with Laphroig Select, which is rather nice. Milder, sweeter and more floral than a normal Laphroig, as it's developed in a mix of sherry and first fill bourbon casks. I suspect there's some Virgin oak in there too, such is its Bourbon-like fragrance.

Ardbeg Uigeadail really does blow everything else out of the water for me. So complex, so much going on, every mouthful is different, it smells amazing specially the empty glass, like molasses and hot dogs, and it has a really nice gum numbing effect. I love it.

The Uigeadail is something else, I don't think I've ever tried a better whisky. Started off my New Year's Eve with it before moving on to JW Double Black sours.

Nikka pure malt black & red are great. Gave my dad a bottle of the "from the barrel" stuff last year and its still 90% full - he thinks all whiskeys taste like paint stripper. Its a very nice paint stripper, though.
Been enjoying the miyagikyo. Really nicely balanced.

Off to Aviemore for fun on top of pointy things soon. Any recommendations for local distilleries or points of sale?

^^ There used to be (5/6 years ago) a whiskey shop over in grantown on spey, on the high street. Nice big selection, fair prices, and the owner was happy to chat.
And all things nice.
