BBQ Whisky Beer
Went last night, 6:45PM arrival and the place was empty which was lucky as I didn't book. Managed to get about 13 people around the corner table on the inside.
Food eaten ranked by favourite:
Beef ribs
Rib ends (whatever they are called?!) - juicy juicy goodness
Fryer Trash - amazingly big portions, triple cooked chips!
Hot wings - really liked how they were not too dry and vinegary which some places do
Mac n Cheese burger with trash - share this one as its insanely dense and rich.
Fish and Chips (was with a couple of vegos, good sports!)
Nachos - good corn chips but really, a waste of stomach space
(their coleslaw is disappointing)Drinks sampled ranked by favourite:
( We decide to tour Islay for this visit.)
Round one: caol ila, lagavulin, bruichladdich
Round two: laphroaig, ardbeg, bunnahabhain <--I think...Also had a Meantime lager for starts.
Others on my table had deserts and they looked great. Didn't taste because I was full to the brim.
Service was really lovely. Definitely be back for Ends, wings and desert next time.
I live dangerously close to this place...Slàinte!

We popped along last night and sadly we weren't particularly impressed. We had a beef rib (single rib), the Beef Royal burger and a portion of chips to share.
The first portion of chips to come was cold, so we sent those back and got a new one. They were very nice, but not a very big portion. Not enough to share, and overpriced at £3. I enjoyed my burger, apart from the mushrooms that I passed over to LH. She wasn't so impressed with the mushrooms either. Some strange ingredient in the coating. The rest of the burger was great; 3 beautifully tender slices of short rib, thick smoked bacon on top of a perfectly cooked burger.
Her rib was a bit of a disaster. The sauce on the top was covering a big lump of fatty gristle and once that was removed, the rest of the meat was not easy to cut and wasn't at all tender. I ended up donating meat from my burger to LH so that she felt like she had a proper meal. I took what was left of the rib after she'd given up and managed to get some tasty scraps, but there was barely any sauce, it was all on the gristle we'd had to remove. The coleslaw that came with it was very celery heavy, which is not ideal if you don't like celery.
Overall, we thought it was disappointing and certainly overpriced. One rib, one burger, one chips and 2 pints of beer was almost £40!
The staff were lovely, however. Faultless.

Reckon we'll still give it a try; many people have had good experiences with it.
Don't suppose we need to book for just the three of us.

Mick and Brave might be up to this.. I'll ask them. Booking is better as it's the last week?

I think that's pretty much dead now, I certainly got fed up with it
book a table for 6 and we're good to go

I tried booking but the guy at the end of the phone said something ominous about "a couple of contractual issues" and "watch this space over the next few days". Meh.
-
• #1392
Hmmmmm. Meh indeed.
Still, at least there is a back up plan.

Hi guys, we went to this last night. It was really delicious.
The hot wings were really good, nachos decent, but the beef rib was mind blowing. Thick sweet smokey whisky crust, tender beef still pink in the thick parts. Split 2 desserts between 5. 3 drinks each worked out at £30 a head inc tip
I highly recommend going.

Whisky for a hip flask.
Any recommendations?
I have heard it said that one should go for a good blend or some thing with lots of peat-
-
• #1396
Why should a hip flask not contain something that you would otherwise drink out of a glass?
-
• #1397
Because glass is (practically) inert, so doesn't react with your drink and change its taste. Metallic hip flasks tend to react with whisky and hence change the flavours. Only tends to be a problem if you leave it in the flask for more than a couple of days apparently.

Ah. I've never had a problem emptying my flask on the day I fill it. That explains that. so. Drink something nice and don't let it go to waste.

I had Jura Superstition in my hill walking flask for over 6 months at one point and everyone remarked how good it tasted! But then anything tastes good at the top of a hard mountain

Thanks
Is there such a thing as a decent blend?
Anyone at the Japan vs Scotland SWC tasting tonight?
