How old does a car have to be before it's eligible for classic car insurance?
Depends on the insurer and the policy
Some are 10 years. If there is an owner's club there's usually a scheme through Peter Best or Lancaster.
Most insist on a garage, most are limited mileage and most don't demand or accrue no-claims bonuses. If you want a decent car with low premiums it is cheaper to buy and insure a scooter or moped as your main vehicle and insure the car on a classic policy.

When I had a look at it the classic you were insuring had to be your second car, also.

Yep, but mine were quite happy for that second "car" to be my Vespa.
They were also happy for the "garage" to be a parking space in a gated car park, as there were two walls and a roof over my spot. I expect if it had been nicked from there they would not have paid out though.
They were also happy for me to be insured on a provisional licence as long as somebody on the policy had had a full one for 3 years.

I have a classic policy on my 190e, parked on the road and accumulates NCB. Through Lancaster broker, Allianz insurer.

My dog is pretty comfy in the back of mine
No whiskey refills though.
@Saadat. I love the Infinity (guess it's a G63?) thought it looked pretty fucking aggressive.
Regards insurance I could have insured my rangie (16 yrs old) as my only car on classic car insurance if I only had a driveway (no gate) to park it in. Going price for a property with one of those around where I live is a couple of mill, so it worked out cheaper to get general public insurance...

Commoners insurance then...

Admiral. Fully bifta policy as well as n/c disco's and still change out of £300. It does pay to be an old cunt from time to time.

Fucking hell that's cheap for anything with an 'M' at the beginning.
I'm hoping on seeing a drop to £600 in March, that'll be 2 year NCB and down from £1200 2010.

It is registered to an address in The United States of Essex.

Ooof! I recall paying something roundabout the same figure for TPF&T cover on a Clio 16v back in the day. Loved that car, had a Williams after that......10 years later I drive a Clio 1.2 :(
miss the power but not the bills

Value is agreed, yes. Excess is the bowel-clencher though.

Am settling down to watch Mad Max with a rum in my hand and a bag of frozen peas on my shoulder.
-
• #8547
There's no decent sex-scene in that film. What're the peas for?
-
• #8548
Injured tendon giving me grief. Haven't seen Mad Max for ages though despite the lack of sex scene had forgotten what a top flick it is in a high octane kind of way.
-

I think it cost about fifteen quid to make.
Great film though and fundamentally better than any that followed it. Especially the one with Tina Turner and Mel's magnificent mullet.

They are remaking it with Tom Hardy as Max - original director and producer on board too
