  • Facebook/gumtree tends to have a lot of people moving on sets of wheels. People tend to "upgrade" to bigger wheels, so you might have a lot of choice. You might have to factor in a new set of tyres though at £250-300

  • Ace thanks. Good to know that’s an option. Dunno how much of an issue it’ll really be (most of my driving will be long distance over motorways), though I have got a friend who lives in the middle of nowhere countryside…

  • You'll be fine as far as CritAir goes, but also, don't.
Whatever Waze/Google tells you the Peripherique is never a good idea. Take the A3/A86 until you're well south of Paris, or better still take a completely different route.

  • Excellent! Thank you all. Alternative is skirting Rouen but even they have CritAir, driving time/distance is the same either way.

  • Only had to drive peripherique twice.
Way out took 15 minutes. Way back one hour.

  • What year/model of Corolla? Unless it's a GR, 16" wheels will be plentiful, cheap and no worries with fitment.

  • new set of tyres though at £250-300

I need this. Where in London can I achieve it.

  • Maybe for 16’s? Unless you want to add an automatic ditch seeking function to your car on 19’s you are not going to find four tyres for £300

  • 2020 Excel, I’ll double check though, cheers.

  • And 17s.

But yes as soon as you go above 17s the cost jumps considerably.

  • Will 16s fit over brakes and stuff?

Pirelli Cinturato P7 for £300 fitted with code APCM-15

  • If you go the toll road way, the roads lead to the peripherique.

But, after thinking about this comment, and times I used the peripherique always been busy.

  • That is good

  • A3/A86

    Like this? Seems fine.

  • THANKS. Thanks to all who gave me info on A4 Avants. Had a look at five of them. Decided to stick to what I know and have bought an A6 (hope to get it in the next few days). I'm happy with the purchase but keep seeing A4 Avants and wondering if I've done the right thing. Time will tell but I do love the A6.
One downside is the trade in I was offered for my current 2007 A6. It's not in great condition, engine is great though with 152,000 miles. Service history from Specialist Audi mechanic. Good tyres. It has some issues but none which prevent driving. Offer was £100.
I've found a scrapage site which offered £400 and my mechanic may be interested in buying it - he knows the faults and the history. Also, he bought my last A6.
I won't be sad to see it go which is unusual for me. Hope to be smiling in the new car soon!
    Thanks all

  • You gotta go through the A86 duplex tunnel. We just did it a couple of weeks ago in a Volvo with a roof box which was literally 20mm below the 2m height limit.

It's flippin bonkers, feels like you're driving through a track from Wipeout on PS1, on mushrooms, and goes on forever. I was wincing every time we drove under ceiling-mounted dodads which were a gnat's bollock away from ripping the roof box off. It was only after we emerged unscathed that I realised it's actually a duplex double-decker tunnel. Mental.

  • That would work.
I always go through Rouen. And I fill up at the Total garage on the road there.

This enables me to take the Road to Total Rouen.

  • fuck thats a great insight! I will have bikes on the roof, Rouen it is

  • I went through it on my motorbike once as I didn’t spot the ‘no bikes’ sign.

    Terrifying.

Head sits at Range Rover roof height.

  • I sold a totally engine-fucked golf on facebook marketplace for £900 for spares/repair, worth putting it up and seeing what offers you get....

  • It's flippin bonkers, feels like you're driving through a track from Wipeout on PS1, on mushrooms, and goes on forever.

Could not have put it better myself. I went through it last year at about midnight on a muggy night in a battered car with no air-con and I genuinely thought I was tripping!

  • What are the issues with it?

  • don't take £400. Any ICE car that drive and has an MOT is worth £1k minimum these days I reckon. Put it on eBay 99p no reserve, be completely honest and you will get a good price. I sold my 20yo A4 avant with no reverse gear for £800 a few years ago
