It looks super clean, exhaust aside. lol

Your mechanic mate... Do they work at a dealership? And have they ever worked on cars older than 10 years? Because I feel like their opinion is invalid forevermore.

Thing is, you can buy locally delivered Foresters that are very similar and plentiful.
There's plenty out there. Although, @RonAsheton is that a 2 litre (ej20) and auto? I think the local Aussie versions were the GT and manual only. the next series up went to XT badging and have the 2.5t engine and you can get Automatics. As for the rust, it's not terrible but if that has been on salted winter roads then there may be more hidden away. Also, timing belt, if the change was more than 5 years ago it's due for a new one regardless of kays.

No! He owns his own independent garage in Brisbane and he fixes a lot of old cars, I think he might be blindsided by the rust. You don't get too much of it out here, I'll have to ask him.
He just sees a twenty year old Forester, I don't think he quite gets the purity of the Momo steering wheel and STi monogrammed Dralon ™ interior. ⛳
He was going on about all the black spray paint over the rust, but nothing like Derek from Vice Grip, this would be level zero rust compared to that kinda weight saving.

You'd be surprised, there aren't that many about. My mates over here seem to think you trip over them on every street corner and they're only $4k a pop, cloud cuckoo land.
I did find a nice black 2005 Cross Sport which could work, $15k. That seems to be the going rate for a not bad one.

Man, I dunno. I'm gonna send the pics to my regular mechanic here in the burbs, he's from Lancashire and knows all about rust. See what he says.
But I came away from there today thinking I was good to go. I will always defer to an expert but maybe old mate just hates Subarus!

That looks right to me, my MX5 had that finish post sill repair

JP, wassat? But yes it is correct, textured on sills for protection in an area likely to otherwise see paint damage.

Oh don't use Palace motors in crouch end. Rip off for dodgy MOT fails, and charging for a pollen filter (not fitted to this car) and spark plugs that were long life were replaced without removing the bolts I marked with a Sharpie.

What are the chances, thought I owned an obscure V8 car then ended up parking next to this. Shame it makes only 260bhp from a 4.6 V8.

2.0 has more reliability over the 2.5 I believe?

Is my desperation that obvious? 😬

Another, much prettier, option. I love this.
OH adores this so off for a look either today or tomorrow.

Yeah the EJ20 was a far better engine than the EJ25. The 2.5's don't take to extra boost as well and lots of oil issues. They need frequent oil changes but they rarely get them.

Look at this handsome motherfucker.

Yes, that STi has an EJ20 in it. So head gaskets.
This Jimny has now leapt into primary position with dearly beloved's blessing, waiting to hear back from the guy. It's a miserable wet day up here so a quick drive up to the Sunny Coast and back won't hurt anyone.

What's the price on that? Looks restored.

That spoiler, eh? It is a turbo after all.
I don't have any info, it's probably original. A lot of the Japanese imports we get here are in pristine condition (apart from the STi models, obvs), I'll find out tomorrow, it looks lovely but I can see a couple of little bumps here and there so it isn't perfect.
I know he changed the wheels, I think they work really well on it.
