  • Oh that looks neat, i have a few sacrificial spare dash parts so could think about drilling them. Does it fold down flat whilst in place?

  • VW/NSU K70

There's some belters on the custom aircooled scene

  • Oh 900's and 99's, our family had loads of these over the years, no carrllssossons, but plenty of T16, T8, an anniversary in dark metallic red (5 door though think?) that got t boned at speed, all walked away, replaced with the last one I think a 1994 plated (?) 2.0 na XT? Which always remember being just not as good as the other ones!
And before that some 95's a green and a blue one that were composted at the end of the garden when they both got hit by a local tractor (pretty much monster trucked them), farmer paid out and we broke the cars for spares before leaving the shells out.
Remember the 99 and 900's all had the same interior smell? Kinda like upholstery glue and hot plastic, might have been the kind of velour or leather they used, but still when I see 900's and stick head inside they smell like my childhood. THe GM 900 onwards smelt just like a normal car though. Had a few of those 9-3 and 9-5 faster models and always were pretty good, quick enough and good on fuel for what they ere (9-3 hot aero with BSR mods got 40 mpg real on a loop of Scotland 3 up + dog) and easy to mod a little.

  • Saw this beauty this morning

  • I didn't know FIR provided the 5 spoke flywheel for the old Benz car.

  • more than $50 ?

  • Well, the braking surface was stille pretty decent, so easily more than 50

  • Our rad little c70 convertible went bang bang today down in dorset. Main drive into the gearbox snapped apparently. It’s a write off as even a clutch replacement is almost as much as it’s worth.
Managed to get recovered to a place nearby who’ll look at it in the morning but it’s probably terminal.

Got a year out of it, was fun but such is life.

Got the joy of a 3hr ride to work tomorrow so I can borrow the works Luton til something gets sorted.
Luckily we were on a family holiday so dad(40yrs in motor industry) swung into action.
Now on a train home while scouring autotrader to find something else and trying to find a breakers down in dorset to weigh in the Volvo with.
I really wish I didn’t need a car in my life but hey ho.

  • Sorry, but I can tell you right now that it's terminal, I scrapped one on a dead clutch alone. Apparently half the car has to be taken apart to get at it, the projected labour was terrifying.

  • Absolutely gutted. Loved the fact you just went for it and enjoyed it as a fun car. RIP.

  • Yup, imma rate it as the best lols per mile forum purchase ever. Many thanks for sending it my way @Turkish!
A year of flooring it on slip roads, driving around with the top down listening to music. One smashed windscreen, a new set of brakes and a hell of a lot of fun.
I wouldn’t mind but I just spent £500 on a full service and tyres ;)

  • I sometimes worry I’m missing out on more fun motoring by not buying more stupid cars. It looked an absolute hoot.

  • It was everything I wanted from a stupid car. Cheap, fast and obnoxious in an understated way.
Was a fuck you to ulez for making me chop in my perfectly efficient and serviceable berlingo that I’d have kept for a decade if I’d been allowed.
It died on a sunny day on a beautiful hillside in dorset at the end of a great weekend climbing and hanging out with my family. It’s all good.

  • We’re looking at Citroen c1 and Ford ka etc in the £5k price bracket. In a unique position where Lizzie is stuck in dorset, where there happens to be a plethora of ulez compliment, low mileage cars at main dealers previously owned by old folks or leased to teenagers..

Times is hard and we’ve also got to pay out for welding on our camper as that just failed it’s mot. Double fucked.

  • I admire your candour. A fine send off to the vehicle it sounds like anyway.

No option of just trying to pick something up cheap as a stopgap and selling back in London as you'll probably make even or even profit from taking it from a small market to a bigger one?
Or was a small car in the pipeline anyway?

  • Well it wasn’t something we were thinking about one way or another tbh.
We don’t need a big car for long trips or bike hauling - we’ve got a ‘93 t4 that fills that purpose.
My commute is 60 miles per day in total, up and down the motorway. We park on the street so cheap, small and unassuming makes more sense than another silly car.

I take your point on the stop gap wheeler dealer buy but I’m just not that into cars enough to want to deal with it.

I’ll get another stupid car for a bit in the future.

  • I do love the C1 or whatever the equiv Pug is. Always seem to have them on holiday as hire cars. That said they’re a bit too small to feel comfy on the motorway every day.

  • I’m just not that into cars enough to want to deal with it.

I know that feeling, my petrolhead mates will chop and change at the drop of a hat, mainly as they can deal with car stuff and navigate the market without stress. If I had those skills I'd have probably owned more than 2 different cars in the last 12 or so years.

My random "playing with filters on autotrader pick" to suit your needs, lol.
    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202207017351123 unfortunately in Birmingham
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208178878538 in London but less service history.

ULEZ, not too big, under 5k, decent mpg for motorway commuting, and it looks nice.

  • Haha the wanker in me says yes but the hard up freelancer in me says fuck off it’s an Alfa ;)

  • More fiat/vauxhall no?

    Actually more Chrysler and Jeep.

    Ford KA is a fiat500/panda

  • More roofless fun spotted yesterday. I'm pretty rubbish at identifying proper old cars, and at 93 years old this is definitely in that category, so had to look this up when I got home.

Its a 1929 Riley 9 Brooklands works team car. Sounded great when he fired it up too. The fucking size of that fuel filler cover, love it.

  • From a small rural town in Ontario. Should have probably taken the photo from the other side of the street.

  • We’re now the proud owner of a 2014 1.2 KA. Pretty basic but it goes. 40k miles, one owner, main Ford dealer warranty etc.
Bit wild just seeing transactions pinging on my phone while my partner is at the other end of the country taking care of business.
