Sandy Brown worked Peugeot engine, custom pistons, shafts, fully worked head and ITB's
    Any guesses on the power?

  • I'm wildly guessing at around 180-190bhp. Sandy is the man when it comes to pug engines and really knows his stuff generally. I believe that is a tu bottom end (as found in 106 and 205 rallye's) with a 16v head (as found on the 1600 16v 106 gti). He also has a completely standard looking 309 with a really neat Integra type r engine it it. Complete sleeper !

  • Anyone interested in a P reg 850R for around 2K?

    The car:

It's not mine, but initially it was identical to mine albeit this one is newer (mine is an N reg).

  • I am also on the lookout for a rover v8 and lt77 gearbox (pref together). I anyone hears of anything, gimme a shout.

What is this going to be used in ? Have you thought about a Borg Warner T5 box instead ?

  • I would bet cash money on it being for his MGB roadster.

  • this abhorrance passed me on the warwick road today:

    aston martin cygnet..hmmm...

    £30000 for a Toyota IQ
    fuck that

  • cleaned up the new diff and swapped the oil. was some nasty smelling dark green/grey shit that came out. fill up with golden castrol SAF-XA with some nulon G70 LSD additive.

got pretty much all the crap ready for a busy week or so :)

Pretty close there, 192 at around 8k.

There's a vtech powered 309 for sale now, not sure if it's Sandy's or a customer's. It's only had 200miles on the new engine and the whole car's had a full stripdown and rebuild. Only £5K, I would if I had the money

  • Pretty close there, 192 at around 8k.

As I said, he's the man ! If I ever get the chance and budget allows I'll be getting an S1 106 Rallye or a 205 Rallye built with one of those engines to enter under 1400cc hillclimb and sprint class !

  • Hillclimbing what this engine is for. It's going into a 205 weighing something like 760Kg. There isn't much torque but it reaches 100lb/ft around 3.5/4k then stays flat until around 7k. Makes me wish I had more money so I could send my track car to Sandy for a set of bodies and a map

  • got the manifold off and other crap in the bay out of the way including radiator, bit of mess on top of old valley plate, cleaned up and swapped over. took off water pump and powersteering. can't take main pulley off till i drop auto. so went around to the back, dropped exhaust, then took ages to undo all the hard bolts on the axles and supporting diff. eventually out and pulled out the tail shaft.

hopefully tomorrow can refit diff with new urethane mount, drop auto and swap convertor, get back into engine stuff.

  • Cordless rattle guns are fucking great for rust bolts.

Have a new steed in the garage for a quick turn around an 02reg MGF. It needs a new headgasket. All striped and needs the pistons liners put to the correct deck hieght and then new steel dowls in the head along with a different thermostat.

  • busy again today. fitted up diff then took the rear mount off to put in urethane mount, after i stuff up, i removed the spare one and tried again, still took a bit of modding. finally done then bolted on drive shafts.

moved to trans and wanted to drain the box before i did anything, again time consuming job with fluid running down me arms. internals all looked good, just like an alien brain full of electronics. pan was dirty so cleaned that out, never realised they put a magnet in there to pick-up all the metal bits, put that back together.

started on heads. time consuming jobs undoing a thousand bolts, included rockers and extractors bolts. forget to undo bolt holding on trans tube, so had a bit of a wrestling match, i won, headgasket lost. pistons were pretty crusty (so scraped all the shit off them), amazing could still see hone marks in the bore's, which to me is a little odd for a 140k engine. cleaned up heads as well, trialed the crappy valve spring tool, broke it, fixed it, then got it off yay! tried a dual one for ls1's, but don't work as these heads are bigger and there is an offset exhaust rocker.

finally had a go at cracking balancer bolt, by jamming a spanner between one of the spokes and the block. with the help of big persuasion pipe it came off. then attacked balancer and after a few attempts located the tabs inside to help it stay on. then slowly slowly removed balancer.

    soo getting there slowly.

  • Went to do my inner track rod today but I can't see any way to do it without removing the rack from the car, not something I want to do especially if it means fucking about with the power steering pipe.

  • MGF engine now stripped, and need the water pump to be sure. How the hell do you take photos with out the camera getting messy? Remote control and a tripod?

  • Wear gloves

  • I do, I use nitrile as they are tougher than latex but can lose the feel of what I'm doing. I also use latex but they don't seem to last long.

I usually use barrier cream before hand.

  • Is that 2002 a touring?

What a great engine block....from road car to formula One

  • I bet that's at Laguna ^

  • This.
