  • stock.

  • Just remapping it?

  • yep. hp tuners or VCM suite. very very adaptable units.

  • Just buy that blue Ereg amazon on the north circular after catford with the 2series alloy wheels.

  • It looks like all that's holding the bottom together is the paint.

  • There is a hint of rust, it is true.

However I believe you can fix this with magnets

Maybe I should wait until a better one comes along.

  • Currently working on a 1992 mini mayfair and a 1975 mercedes camper. Although i have the mercedes up for sale.

The car i want most in the world is a 1969 mustang fast back. To top it tho a good friend of mine is doing up a 1965 mustang and it is AWSOME

  • It's decision time.

I bought a new battery for the Rover today, with the intent of seeing if it would start.
Well eventually it did start but spluttered badly after a minute or so. It was then that I noticed a big lake of petrol, probably mixed with oil, ATF, anything else forming under the car. It's been sat since 2004 and not started since maybe 2005 or 6. Shit's going to have perished.

Do I fix it? Do I sell or give it to a fellow SD1 enthusiast, Do I scrap it and Ebay all the parts I bought for it?

I've sort of come to the conclusion that I am not interested in having a broken car when I a) don't have my driving licence yet, and b) can afford one that isn't broken when I do get round to it.

Here is the old girl in happier days.

  • I'll take the engine and box if you split it.

I'll also give you a hand if you want to recommish. You KNOW I have recent experience.

Finger in the air says a fuel line may have decayed. Shouldn't be a major issue.

If you need a hand gimme a shout.

2.3 straight six. 3 speed auto.
You don't want that. Nobody does. ;-)

  • boo. i was pricing up 5-link rear ends and everything!

    :)

  • If it was a V8 it would be worth paying someone to fix it.

  • for a £100 and a weekend or two, you could get it up to scratch.

just do it all in one go. that's where i fucked up. mine had sat for about the same time. i drove until something went, then fixed it (although, if one part went, i replaced the whole lot - brake hoses, etc). i should have just gone through and changed EVERYTHING rubber and all of the consumables before even driving it. instead i would do one or two a payday, but they seemed to rack up quicker than i could cross them off the list. it just feels like the car is always broken down.

it also depends on how good the rest of the car is. you don't want to get the fucker FINALLY running well and reliably, only to have a respray as the next thing needed.

  • ^Tell me about it, my car is off to the mechanic in a weeks time, where it will stay for a week getting a load of niggling issues sorted out.

It really gets you down when you have ALWAYS got a warning light on for something

  • This is the problem.
I got given the car in 2003, fixed it up and drove it a bit. Then the next MoT came around and a lot of stuff needed doing because I'd not driven it enough. About that time I failed my drving test so I put it on ice, bought bits to fix the problems and got no further. It was always just easier and cheaper to do nothing. I've even been insuring it every year, just in case I actually fix the fucker.

Now I think if it was roadworthy then that would be an incentive to try and get my licence again, but what with the way things in my life are at the moment I can't spare the energy to sorting it out. If it was in someone else's workshop with lift and tools and so forth then it might be quite nice to go there and fix it up at the weekends. With it sitting outside my flat being all broken it's more of a millstone.

Bodily it's good for its age. the arches are starting to go, and it needs a couple of patches of metal let in where the floor has rusted through near the rear radius arm mounts. Other than that it's not bad.
Paint is a bit crap up close. the previous owner used a mismatched spraycan to touch up small chips. berk. But it looks good from a distance. Interior is near mint. Engine was very good before I parked it up.

  • I haven't had a warning light on for sometime. I noticed that a week ago, and now that I've noticed it I'm getting stressed as to when it will come on again.

At least when the light is on all the smells grubles, noises, etc you hear on the road that aren't you don't worry you so much
