  • 1800's engine bay is too short to get a 5 cylinder engine in.

^think this is horseshit. I'm sure I've seen it done. Much lovelier than a 'B

  • Like its gonna happen anyway

    Prove it!

Very tight to get the B230 in there, and that's a 4.

You could of course cut the fire wall out and move it back, but that's getting into "lots of work" territory.

  • Like its gonna happen anyway

This is a fair point- it's pure bench racing.

I give it a 0.0000000000001% chance of happening.

  • Hmm, looks like at least one chap has got it in- no idea if it works, mind:

  • I couldn't swear to it, but I think the steering column would have to pass through the intake manifold...

  • Looks like the weather was as good this year as it was last.

The visibility on that track is unbelievable. The sound of the cams at the beginning, the transmission whine. Love it. One of my new favourite NLap vids. Good job Mick

Let's hope it's nicer than that for the Rad Am Ring...

  • That's a fucking crime right there, putting a builder's engine in a thoroughbred.

You could have a silky smooth V12, nigh on 300bhp in the standard 5.3 tune with potential for more than twice that.

Or if you want an easy modern swap how about the lovely supercharged 5 litre quad cam v8 with 510bhp and 625lbft out of the box?

Dirt cheap. Precisely. Fitting one to a Jaguar turns a thoroughbred into a mongrel.

The Jaguar V8s kick out a lot more than 400bhp in their supercharged variants.
    http://www.jaguar.com/gb/en/r/r_specifications
The 5 litre supercharged v8 gives 510/625 except in the XKR-S where it gives 550/680.
Unsupercharged is 385 horses which is still more than a crate LS1

    you fucking kidding me?!?
it ran an industrial 6 cyl tank engine designed during the depression.

LS1 swap is all sorts of win because:
    -cheap, simple and light!
-stupid amount of aftermarket go fast bits
-bolt-in super easy, stock k-frame and powersteering
    -little mod to driveshaft
-easy mix of ls1 power steering and a/c to jag parts
-ls1 rad straight in with twin fans (run cool all-day)
-with mafless tune and decent exhaust 300hp allday
-add baby cam and heads, 300+hp easy
-fuel consumption 12l/100k's, compared to stock 25l/100k's

  • -fuel consumption 12l/100k's, compared to stock 25l/100k's

You were making total sense up to this bit.

    ;)

You might get away with dismissing a twin overhead cam straight 6 engine that won Le Mans several times over as an "industrial tank engine" if you didn't then stick in something that still uses pushrods.

Plenty of pushrod engined Le Mans winners, long after Jag started to become a footnote in endurance racing history.....

    Hubba hubba.

  • I think you're missing my point.

Anyway, diesels win it now. Le Mans is fucked.

  • Yup. That's a disgrace. Nothing inherently wrong with diesel engines, in a cement mixer or something. But Le Mans cars?

    Wrong.

  • If your looking at power to weight look at 6 cylinder engines to get a balanced power stroke.

  • sixes are inherently perfectly balanced. V8s are inherently unbalanced. None of this explains why the Lexus V8 is so refined.

  • Flat 12s FTW

Balancer shafts, and mounting of engines.

  • Minky and Richie are in for a treat this weekend, saw all the cars that are going to be hammering it up the hill on static display yesterday at FOS and there's some serious machinery!

  • apologies if this has been posted already, but i watched this last night..

it made a change from seeing the usual twats on the box..

thats what i get daily in my 6.0 and what my mate was getting with the jag :o

  • remains of ferrari california stolen in aus

  • Got to do this the other day. My ears felt like they were bleeding.

  • FAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK!

My fucking manifold is still not done. How long does it take to mill 8 holes and tap out a couple of fuel rails. So pissed off with the clowns over here - why do people say they'll get stuff done in a week (generous) and then leave you waiting for a month!!!

    It had BETTER be cheap.

    [Rant Over]

  • Flat 12s FTW

Indeed, the flat 12 was the heart of my favourite Ferrari of al time:

  • Now this is looking extremely tempting: Volvo 850R AWD Conversion - Turbobricks Forums

There is a donor 850 AWD on eBay at the moment just round the corner from my parents.
