Just booked the hotel, looking at hiring the bike - just need to lock in the route now so thanks for the recommendations.
Is this close to what you were thinking?
-
• #48904
Yup, just on the D roads rather than the A31 / A6. Should be a fab drive!
-

Part of the point of getting an A2 is they are quite interesting. Like the idea of taking the back seats out and leaving it like that. Air con seems to be the issue.
Found another petrol one needing a sunroof motor and tyres but quite pricy.
Make sure four seater, easier to remove seats. AC not normally an issue, mine 17 years old and works lovely. It wont be the motor, it'll be the cables.
They swallow loads

Had a mate caught on camera and pulled over. Apparently he was doing 5km/h over the limit. He was fined 6,000. Any more than that and his bike would have been confiscated and imprisonment.

Sounds like something else was going on there. The maximum fine allowed by law in Switzerland for 5km/h over the speed limit is 40 CHF on minor roads, 20CHF on a motorway. This rises to about 400 CHF for 20kmh over the limit from memory, after that there is a sliding scale of bans and means tested fines.

What's the limit on a typical country road?
-
• #48909
80kmh I think

This site is quite useful.

If you really fuck up and get caught badly speeding they calculate your fine based on your multiples of your day rate for the previous tax year.

Agreed. It's why I prefaced with with 'apparently'. I was with him, but didn't buy the 5km/h. The guy has an affinity for a heavy wrist, and I was quite far back as I don't like overtaking needlessly.
He alleges they said it was 5 above, they weren't particularly happy. It turned a bit heated.
Judging by previous scenarios, pretty sure he was way over a ton (mph). The 6000 however, was a legit fine (or confiscation). Took him a while to pay it off. Whether what he said was true or not, we still argue about it from time to time.
The amount though really hit home. -
• #48912
6000 is entirely possible, it just means that he was speeding by a lot more than 5kmh and 20 days of his previous year day rate equalled 6k. If he was Swiss, he would have lost his license too.

Over a ton MPH I think would put him in clink. Both guys I know that got nicked were definitely doing a over 100kph in 80 limits up in the passes. I've gone over 80kph downhill on my bike...twist the throttle a bit on a superbike in second and you're doing over a 100kph.
I think the principle complaints aside from the monetary are how zealous and sneaky the cops are with the traps.Regardless I'm not going anywhere over there again in a hurry but if I was, I'd spend my dough in France and Italy.

it's not difficult is it. if you are gonna rag it thru another country do at least some elementary research about how the authorities might take a view on it.

but fuck Switzerland anyway obvs

But, but, the pocket knives ...

Norn Iron speeders get away lightly

Agreed. My theory was by the time he saw the Police by the side of the road he was 5 over, but they caught him way further up.
@Jung He was on a week old R1 and having far too much fun to realise where he really was.
My point was the amount over the speeding. Speed all you want, you'll get nabbed ones day.
It was the colossal amount of money that floored me.
I've yet to hit up Italy. Mugello beckons! -
