  • Unless you use these:

  • Then you 'lube' between the bolt head and the top hat.

Have been known to rub both with graphite lube (2b or 4b pencil) if I have one to hand.

  • I don't put any lube or grease on, and just tighten them up by standing on the breaker bar I have. Never had any issues!

  • Here fishy fishy......

  • Never paid over a grand for a car though...

  • Volvo XC90?

Extra seats in the back which are safe.

Pretty sure a VW passat will fit 3 in the back.

  • More the standing on a breaker bar.

  • cheers Joe and @Soul. it brings an inordinate amount of joy

  • It's definitely one of the best cars on the thread.

  • Pretty sure a VW passat will fit 3 in the back.

I thought that too, but the rear seats of my Father in-law's B7 Passat looks much slimmer than the mk4 Mondeo he Px'ed it for. I'll test it this weekend...

XC90 is a good shout, thx

  • Look at the toyota (can't rememember model corolla) and the Honda accord.

  • You are right, I cannot comment as my love for small italian cars over rules my logic.

  • Mercedes R class? Don't see a lot of the around but they have a 2 2 2 seat layout.

  • R63 FTW

  • I was thinking about one of them instead of the RS6 as a fast bike-hauler. Couldn't bring myself to do it though.

  • Looks like less than half the mpg. Wince. Still be fun though.

  • Do these exist 2nd hand in the UK?

  • Just incase someone missed it, the new Gordon M escort episode was out the other day

The rust proofing work really shows where having a professional makes a difference long-term.

I wonder how accessible that sort of zinc "plating" is from regular bodyshops?

  • Dunno how many there are, but I see one driving around Walthamstow fairly regularly, reminding me of how bonkers/awesome it is.

  • I was thinking about one of them instead of the RS6 as a fast bike-hauler. Couldn't bring myself to do it though.

I think you'd look rather fetching in an Alice band

  • Corolla Verso? My sister has one. Two extra seats in the back, but not sure you can fit three child seats next to each other.
Edit: My 100 kg brother in law fit comfortably between two child seats on their last trip. Make of that what you will.

  • I do think that this restoration is such a bunch of wank....why not start with either a basket case if you are doing that much work and modification. There is also more scope to build the shell to better tolerance than new.

Rust proofing wise, i disagree about the professional making a long term difference. Stick with the adage of using a good product and some one who knows what they are doing. If you think using waxoil is rustproofing please look it to why it isn't and what things are infinitly better. I am still in praise of ensis fluid by shell.

If you are really bored, think there is details of the glavanized fiat 60's-70's 500. There are many I suspose but this was done by the galvanizing companies owner to show what they could do. He also liked 500s so 2 birds... The car needed alot of work, while galvanized, to stop the panels distorting. Cost was not mentioned but he did say far more than he thought or expected. At a certain point he stopped looking.

    ...such as a professional?
