I bet that spacer is looking like a pretty good option now.
-
• #39003
Ffs. This is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.
-
• #39004
@hoops I see you sitting in Teslas. Bored of that Mitsi already?
-
• #39005
^^^AH, but wait! The spacer fits in the same way as the Momo wheel, so if the replacement hub they are trying right now doesn't work then the spacer won't fit either.
^^Yes, it probably is.

• #39006
Yeah man. I bought three of them.

• #39007
How come you can't use the clockspring?
-
• #39008
Word!
Dammit, do we need to stage an intervention?
-
• #39009
Can you wait until I've got a steering wheel back on, then do it?
-
• #39011
I truly, sincerely, didn't intend on this latest situation developing.
Now I have to finish it, or I've pissed £650 up the wall to get nowhere. I am aware this makes little sense.

Since the car is in bits, strip the rest of interior, including radio (sorts that out) fit a half cage and go track it - making a daft but unique 996 cab race car.
-
• #39013
I believe he’s making the worlds first 996 cab track car anyway. It’s going to be pretty unique.

• #39014
But is it a "streetable" track car or a fast road and track?
Jokes aside, it highlights why cars are never easy and a seemingly simple wheel swap can cause so many headaches. I sincerely hope that it gets resolved and dammit ends up with his dream car.
Quite keen to see it when the paint and engine is all done. -

Cars are pain in the cock. I had to swap the starter motor on my van last night. 40 minutes of writhing around on the filthy pavement, holding a torch in my mouth like a bondage subject in the hold of a downed submarine. All the time small pieces of twenty year old road mire were raining down my nose and eyes. Would have happily taken a dettol shower after.
All my two wheeled mechanical disasters can at least be addressed in a warm, well lit garage with radio 6 and beer.
Cars don't wheelie either.

On that note, one of the rear parking sensors has fallen inside the bumper (giving constant tone when parking), which necessitates full bumper removal and I assume a similar shower of shite.

My heater has started to leak, need to remove the dashboard to get to it. In the winter, in the snow, at Christmas, without a garage. First instruction in Haynes manual is 'remove front seats'. FML.

Road car first and foremost, but one that would be fun on the track if I choose to take it there.
-
• #39019
I'm pretty sure we nearly wheelied the Fury
-
• #39020
I did a wheelie in mine going over the Mountain at Cadwell. Don't think I ever got the rear wheels off the ground though.

Also, back to Satnav chat. My dad wants a standalone unit fo his car. He doesn't smartphone so that's out of the question. Any suggestions?
He wants something he can plug a postcode into and then just follow. simpler the better. His car has built in satnav, but it's not user friendly enough for him.
He's an old man and a bit of a technophobe so this might not be that easy

Before the days of google maps I was really happy with my parents Garmin Navigator. I’ve used it a lot in recent years actually before cheap/inclusive roaming data was a thing. You can download the maps for free for Garmins and the touchscreen buttons are pretty big if you go for the widescreen.
I’d recommend one that has the lane layout view as well, that makes a huge difference.

I think TomTom are recognised as having the easiest interface but not necessarily old person proof still...
Maybe go to halfords and play about with one?

Thanks guys. playing in store is probably a good idea, but I know my old man and he won't want to go to a shop.
@NurseHolliday Is it as shit and unreliable as my Garmin 1000?
What I'm dreading is a 2 grand final invoice to fit a 400 pound steering wheel.
