  • I think the best bet would be to follow the route taken by Porsche, this is the RSR intake:

The carbon tube that is lying in the foreground would normally be where the mesh-tube is to be seen linking the two halves.

I'd run that a version of that tube to the standard filter-housing - via the standard MAF housing:

  • It certainly looks happy

  • Double as well as +50%? So that’s quadruple then, right?

No wonder yours didn’t sell if a minter was worth £2500 last month.

  • FWIW those values are low still - serious lag in the report vs the market.

  • I can’t believe there are enough transactions to extract meaningful data are there?

As you say tho, I’d expect a genuine concours worthy one to be nearer £10k than £7.5k.

  • I had to renew my advert on C&C this morning, bumped the price up by less than I've spent on the car since putting the advert up in the first place: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C900768

In terms of transactions - I don't know how many are required to be statistically meaningful, there's a steady stream of cars being sold, the good condition ones are now almost always a) from Japan and b) automatics. They've been making very strong money - £15,000 for the most recent one.

  • For e.g. this one: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C917995

Which I thought sold on eBay, but maybe not.

The thing about these is that the auto's were (mechanically) the same as the stock T5, but with the map tweaked a bit - it was only the manual that had the go-faster parts.

  • Physically I'm broken after spending the weekend under the car, but new rad and silicone hoses fitted. The heater hose near the bulkhead were if not more challenging than I'd hoped. Had to modify one of the fans due to the thicker rad but everything works well and now have more confidence in the car for road trips/track come the spring. Did reattempt to remove the heavy front tow hook but the captive nut in the chassis seems to have broken free, so when trying to unscrew the bolt the 'captive' nut just spins with the bolt. Pleased with this weekend's progress and thinking I'll save my money for coilovers come the new year.

  • Very strange cooling issues. Any advise welcome.

Have had a run of mini disasters with my v70r and could do with some advice. I blew heater matrix to block hose a few weeks ago on the motorway. This emptied all coolant, and by the time I was able to stop the engine temp guage was in the red. Replaced hose, then discovered that the water pump had died. Replaced water pump, added new coolant and all seemed fine. Go for first extended drive, and the coolant light comes on towards end of drive, low coolant but engine temp remains fine. Top up coolant for return leg, coolant light stays off but within half an hour engine temp goes up. I stop, allow it to cool down, the coolant expansion tank is overfilled. When it is cold enough to open it the coolant disappears, so it's completely empty again. On arriving home I see that there is white smoke coming from exhaust. The expansion tank cap is now clearly allowing steam through.

Am I right in assuming that I have both fucked the expansion tank and the head gasket? What the fuck was going on with the coolant levels? Hydrolock?

  • When you refilled the system, did you put the heater on to the hottest setting and open the heater matrix fully?

Thick white smoke from exhaust suggests burning coolant, worth checking if it's actually using it too so maybe change the expansion tank first

  • Most likely the head gasket.

If there’s no leaks and the coolant level is dropping and there’s white smoke from the exhaust it’s getting int the combustion chambers fo sho.

  • Advice please. My car bumpers have some lacquer peal. I’d like to paint them grey, they are currently colour matched to the paintwork, bronze. Where in E London area do I go for this?

  • Possibly not very well. Or not the final time anyway. Fear it's a bit bolting the door after the horse has bolted. Will try expansion tank and top cap tomorrow and hope that sorts it

  • if the white smoke is as you describe, i think you might be right

  • Take plugs out and look at the ends.

  • Get one of those dent people out to sort it.

  • All seem uniformly mucky. Am assuming I'd see one or two cleaner than the others. No coolant residue around the head...

  • You should just buy another car. There's a nice red 850r over on car and classic. Owner is a bit of knob but he's obsessed with maintenance. Would be a good buy. He might be negotiable as I hear he has a Porsche affliction to fund.

  • *Titters*

  • I would replace the not-very-good photos from your garage and driveway with the ones you took after it was valeted. They show off the condition much better.

  • Do you want me to come take some "scenic" photos @Dammit?

  • Lots of camber, wheel spacers, tyres two sizes too small?
