  • My Skoda is affected by #dieselgate

I prob won't buy another diesel again, mostly because i don't do enough mileage a year to offset the higher fuel price / car price

  • Have you considered the Skoda Yeti?

The Tiguan / Q5 / Yeti are all on similar floor pans and most people who buy that category vehicle say the Yeti is the better car (for less money)

I had my Dad's one for a while and liked it (140bhp TDI)

  • +1 for the Yeti. I had one as a hire car a while back and had to hustle it over the Nufnenpass in order to get to the airport in time. It was surprisingly good.

  • Turns out the RS6 Wankerbarge needs new boots all round. That's before they work out what the clonking noise from the suspension is. I get the feeling this may up approaching @Dammit levels of expenditure.

  • My car will be with Precision until the new year, brakes are all fixed but the replacement roof-latch mechanisms are still on their way from The Fatherland.

  • New boots on that thing. ££££££ / €€€€€€

  • I've told Audi Cambridge I'm having my car back on 22nd regardless of whether they've fixed it or not.

  • I expect they thought that was a good response. (For an Audi driver) :o)

    *coughs*

  • Yep. Over a grand of Pirelli's finest.

  • Spent the weekend exploring the Pembrokeshire coastline in the new car. I know it's not every bodies taste, but I'm really pleasantly surprised with it! It's really fun to drive, even with the diesel motor. Didn't feel like it was ever short of power. It was amazing how it just made cruising along at the speed limit on country roads fun, where as if I was driving the beemer i would have wanted to go faster and probably ended up driving like a tit. I just don't seem to get the urge to that in the mini.

It's surprisingly spacious on the inside too... having the little half door is great for getting the dog in and out, even if he is only tiny! Got 400 miles out of a tank to boot!

  • That Skoda looks a bit postman patty doesn't it.

  • don't buy a red one?

  • A used Tiguan is small, the new one is the same as an XC60.

The XC60 will feel fine, so long as you drive it in isolation, it just feels dated compared to newer models like the Tiguan and Nissans.

It's definitely not sloppy enough to be an issue, it's perfectly good to steer for a big heavy car that focuses on comfort.

If buying on paper the Volvo is defo the one.

Just to check - you know an estate car or MPV a way better bet and the only reason to get a soft roader is because of style over substance, yes?

  • ^this.

Subaru Outback for the win. Drives great, loads of space, goes of road better than all the soft readers due to 'proper' 4 wheel drive. The only thing that will slow you down is big rocks and lack of ground clearance.

  • I wanted a Legacy or 5 series estate. Overruled by Mrs Hefty because apparently the fact that it's her car means she gets to choose.

  • Madness! We didn't vote for Brexit for this!

  • I realise style over substance could be called. I prefer to think of it as style as well as substance.

  • Hmmmm, she's using logic against you, counter with some cold hard facts. Lower CoG means a roll over in a crash is less likely.

  • CoG = Science. Science = expert. Ain't nobody got time for that. Softroaders=aspirational. Obvs.

  • CoG is Subaru fan boi chat but honestly I do feel the mechanical layout aids the way what shouldn't be a sporty car to handle really well.

  • All this talk of compact SUVs and soft roaders. Blurgh. I'm with hefty. Need a family car? Estates win, even small to midsized hatchbacks are perfectly fine.
Want a left field suggestion? Used current generation Peugeot 308 estate, not the ugly gaping maw version. A very good to drive and nice looking car. Go check it out

  • surely that'd be in the price range?

  • De-greased and fitted the new connector

  • It's a bit too long (hence gap between clips) so I've ordered a shorter one from Merlin.
