  • Another £300 spent on the merc. Think this car soon will be filed under 'expensive hobby' rather than 'utility to get us places'

on the other hand, it makes me happy every time I drive it

  • Bedford all day. So much run off, big straights, and room to play.

I'll even be your additional driver!

  • And Bedford feels a bit more like a racetrack than most airfields so it's a bit more exciting but with loads of runoff. Except the bits with concrete barriers, go careful there.

    I vote Bedford.

Then once you've done that Rockingham. Then Cadwell Park. Then the Nordschleife.

  • I'll probably be a pro by Cadwell.

  • Bedford is £109 + £25 for additional driver, 10th of Dec - Saadat are you interested?

  • I'm betting that with a big mid corner lift the Citroën will get more sideways than the focus too...

  • And another thing, any car that you can thrash 100% of the time and not be breaking the limit will be more fun than any car that you need to careful in. Thumbs up for light, underpowered cars.

  • ^that is painted on the side of the Howard Racing Team van.

  • So I've nailed steering after one lesson, just need to master all the other controls now... #terrifying

  • Manual or automatic?

  • Wanna see some shit?

Nope I'm not insuring a Porsche, engine swapped mini or bike powered kitcar.

That's a quote for my £72 euro shitbox.

  • Manual, I'd look a dick at the track in an auto Porsche... 👹

  • Which insurer? Y u no Confusethemarket?

AX isn't a particularly low insurance group due to crash safety and limited resistance to break-in.

  • WTF!!! You cannot be serious!!

  • Manual is tricky first time. I remember my first lesson and having a feeling of "I'm never going to grasp this ... clutch slowly, mirror, blind spot , indicate , seatbelt, handbrake etc etc"
Took me a couple of attempts to eventually pass.

  • It'll take time but sure I'll get there eventually... Can't take my test til April so I've got six months to pick it up...

  • @IR my first car was a Citroen AX GT. Bloody loved it, very rev happy and surprisingly quick. It had an interesting feature whereby the accelerator pedal would get stuck on the shelf under the steering wheel. Always made roundabouts interesting.

  • ^ French Cruise Control.

  • I've tried the specialist insurers every year for the Volvo and now for the Porsche, they've always, without fail, been way more than Admiral/Elephant - to a comical degree.

Right now I pay £400 for the Volvo and £600 for the Porsche - the latter with zero no-claims.

Going to the Adrian Flux type specialists got quotes that were a minimum of twice that - and often the Volvo got quotes of 2.5k plus.

  • That was the admiral or aviva quote, I'm gonna do loads of shopping around and hopefully get it closer to 1k a year. Still tons of money...

  • I'm in Luxembourg that weekend :-(

  • Haha! I'm sure a Citroen AX is a total riot, just like my old 205 CJ was, but if you pay that extra £30,600 you get to be a hooligan at much higher speeds!

  • I'd go Bedford too -I took my friends Carrera C2 to Bedford and Woodbridge.

Both were good, it rained a lot at Woodbridge which gave us chance to do some sliding about with no real risk of hitting anything but Bedford is a much nicer surface and less aggressive on tyres in the dry

    (in my experience anyway)

  • pfft. go to brands or donington and don't waste your time in these coles carparks...

  • "Air vent slats in leather"

Fucks sake Porsche, have a word
