I've just had a gander through half a dozen sites and a mid-seventies 911 can cost less than a lot of the mid to late eighties cars - particularly if you're prepared to bring a project over from the States.
Is this because Singer are buying them up in advance? No (because I asked Rob Dickinson this exact same question), it's because they're becoming hugely desirable.

I managed to get a nice 150 mile jaunt the the kent east sussex countryside yesterday; the first drive of the GTi in anger. A good mix of twisty and highway bits.
firstly, the DSG. I was really worried that it was going to be too lazy for me to get on with,and that it would only be fun if you used the paddles. after getting the chance to wring its neck in the sport mode, i am sold. it really is an amazing bit of kit. the changes are smooth and it holds onto the revs for as long as you need. paddles are fun, too, but you don't need them
if i was to have a moan, it would be because there is such a massive difference between d and s. d is eco, putt around mode and s is aggressive as hell. I would like an inbetween mode for normal driving and s for pressing on.
the car handles really well. nowhere near as stiff as my mate's s3 and i like the steering feel and response, when compared to the s3, too.
more moans - sounds poo when you are idling, the engine is noisy (not in a good way) and there are a few too many rattles and noises inside, for a car that was 25k new. i would expect better brakes, too, but they are capable.
oh, and the satnav is wank.

Good to hear you're enjoying the DSG. After having mine in the BMW for nearly a year, i can't see why i'd go back to a manual.
You're right about the Sat Nav in VW's; it's total shite in my dads Sirocco as well (whole infotainment thing is rubbish).

In the Audi dealership on the weekend I was sitting in the RS3, fiddling with the paddle shifters, and was disappointed to find they're not the big, clunky mechanical powder-coated articles I enjoyed in the Sega Virtua Racing arcade cabinet. They're piddly little buttons!

VAG DSG paddles are a bit wank.

My DSG golf doesn't even have paddles. Not that I'd use them. There are so many gears I'd probably run over a cyclist trying to keep up with the changes.

I got my 190 back from the guy in High Wycombe. Disappointingly, most of the changes are ones that make no obvious difference - changing pipes, calipers, discs etc. But starting cold first time and then purring like a kitten is a novelty, as is the exhaust no longer hanging down. Just a fuel pump, ball joints, rear window regulators, dents, door cards and the paintwork needing attention now.

In the very early wheel mounted semi-auto boxes in the Audi A4s it's just an up and down button on one of the spokes. Put a bit of effort in lads!

Audi Chingford successfully diagnosed my duff wheel bearing for me, cheers. I'll just be taking that away and sorting it out for a fraction of the £370 + initial investigation fee they're charging.

My A4 has the small steering wheel buttons for gear selection on the tiptronic box. They look far too similar to stereo volume controls on more modern steering wheels which is a little confusing. I never use them, it's always in full auto mode.

Really cool Audi S1 in the local dealership, in metallic lime green, so so sweet. £32k is too much for a hot hatch though, come on lads, sort it out.

No but I sat in the e-Tron and said TEA OR COFFEE TEA OF COFFEE in a robotic voice. They game me a pack of Galaxy cake bars and told me to get lost (after trying to charge nearly £80 to change my perfectly functional wiper blades)

The fact that they even dare charge over £30k for one is ridiculous.
