  • Anyone want a Caberg Duke Helmet in Large? Used it for a 6 months but have a new helmet now.

    £30

  • And so it begins. Check engine light. That'll be goodbye to another grand I suppose, and it'll be something pointless and shitty like an oxygen sensor. At least it's worth fixing on this one.

Fucking modern cars. I scoured the market, and bought the very best 986 Boxster on the market, and I've not driven it about 5 times before the problems start.

  • Get an obd2 Bluetooth device and a copy of torque app and scan the codes yourself.

  • Yep what he said.

Check it will read the codes and wipe them.

  • Looks ripe for mad boost?

Been trawling craigslist in all the deserty places in the states looking for a early 242 flat front flat bonnet or a <1974 145 with no rot (not sure if its still tax exempt when its an import though)/ 242 for cheap thrills redblock + boost AND/OR 145 for D5252t (what I drive every day and love) heavily modified daily driver diesel, shave bumpers, fix suspension, LSD + multi-link rear end to see 220-240bhp + 350lb.ft + 50mpg. Reckon it can be done for under £5k but totally hinges on getting a solid body. Everything in the UK is rotten or show car money.
Really love the 5 pot diesel, just the right mix between good noise and efficiency. Would love a D24tiC even more (old 6 pot inline VW van motor) but they just aren't as efficient or capable of significant power increase without £££ custom internals.

  • I sold the R32 and bought an 18 month old GTi. Had it two to three weeks and the orange engine symbol pops up. The manual and it advised that I "contact the local service centre immediately" because of "emissions issues". Booked it in, dropped it off and the same thing happened two weeks later. Funnily enough it happened after the missus had taken it to Abu Dhabi for a meeting. Went back to the service centre and tore the bloke off a strip and he dealt with it. I subsequently read a couple of forums which advised that the orange light showed when there had been a tank of lower octane fuel added.

I questioned the missus about this and she said that she'd asked them to just fill it up. Which they had done, but with low-rent fuel.

She is now well aware that she has to put 98 in instead of 95...

  • Did you get it off a dealer? If so take it back for them to fix it.

Hopefully it will be something simple like a coil pack rather than something scary like the variocam solenoid.

    Does it idle ever-so-slightly lumpy?

  • Edit.

Forgot which page I was on.

  • Put new wheels on my baby last week.

Sadly doesn't live with me in london any more as I don't have space, will end up being stored at my dads for a while until I move again... Miss it.

Anyway thought you guys might appreciate!

  • I just bought that exact one earlier today. Let's see what the story is when it arrives.

Obviously I've nothing to compare it too, but the engine seems to be fine. The idle sounds OK, it's still fucking fast, and when you rev it the wail is present and correct. And amazing.

Just annoyed by shit like this. My most reliable car to date has been a Rover SD1 2300 which I was given for free.

  • Nobody has ever said that about a Rover.

  • Especially not comparing with a Porsche, a Mercedes and a Daewoo (which I bought Toni 5 years ago to persuade her to get her licence so I didn't have to)

Well, there had to be a first time.

I suppose it's only a light. and it's not one of the serious ones. It's just galling because this time I supposedly did it right - found the best car available, spent a proper amount of money, got it from a decent dealer, etc.

The most reliable car my dad ever had while I lived there was a Citroen BX GTi. Absolutely nothing ever went wrong on that, and it was a brilliant car.

I could take it back to the dealer - it's an option I'm keeping open. Shame it's down in Billingshurst, so if it's easy to sort here then it might be better.

  • No harm in giving the bloke a bell and asking him about it - I do recall you saying he was "a good bloke".

  • Cracked the paint on the passenger side wing already. Going back to Cornwall at the end of the month so my mate's going to sort it out for me thankfully. Might have to raise the ride height which is a shame as it looks awesome right now.

@tommmmmmm keep an eye on Retro-Rides too for 190s

@eyebrows I ended up leaving Cornwall pretty late and didn't see your post so I didn't get to try that road, I'll give it a try at the end of the month though! Cheers for the tip

@hoops I've heard of a few R car jackings too, but given how many there are on the road with the brilliant lease and PCP deals, I think the chances are still pretty low. However, if I were in your position, GAP insurance in case the worst happens, keys in an easy to find place in your house - if they do break in, you don't want them trashing your house or even coming upstairs, you want them to take the keys and fuck off and you only have to deal with getting a new car - if anything happens on the road, just hand the keys over. The majority of these thieves will be professionals and they'll take the keys and go, you don't want to get hurt over a car.

  • I wouldn't offer it up to them mesell. Just encourages moar crime. Decent 5 bolt doors and keys on your person. I think I disturbed our burglar. Maybe lucky I was not between them and exit...imagine what I would have done to them. Sews asshole closed etc Srsly tho, better to avoid conflict as you say. B-)

  • Haven't bought a new car battery for about 15 year... 80 fookin quid!

  • Took him for a spin this sunny bank holiday! Bank into the shed he goes... :(

  • Halfords trade card helps as well as a decent motor factor.

  • Anyone recom end and obd2 reader as I can't find mine, and can't remeber who I lent it to. Either android or windows please.

One that can read and clear codes would be good.

  • Yep. it apparently works with Dash Command. that'll do.

  • Torque pro for android is what I use.
Although more likely use romraider and a laptop as it does SSM (subaru protocol over obd2) so provides much more info

  • Rad! That thing is beaut :O

  • An old recommendation from the vegetable oil diesel forum

    https://www.tayna.co.uk/

  • Luxury garage that, windows and everything!
