r reg s70.
Ha. Sounds boxy.

I think the R reg will be the P1 S70- which is an 850 with new wings and interior, so it's very closely related to mine.

Ah I really appreciate the offer, seriously! That's the kind of thing that makes me love this forum! :) I've got the option of leaving it at my parents back in Herts if needs be, can also leave it open (weather permitting) and run an extension out of garage to the dehumidifier there. If that's what's gotta be done then I'll leave it there and inconvenience them instead of you.
What'll happen if I don't dehumidify? Will it kill the car? Bloody love this car and don't want to let it die yet.
If you can lift the carpets and stick newspaper underneath to collect the water, change the paper regularly. Or go to a petrol station with a hoover and vacuum out as much water as possible.
But as others said, easier to take the carpets out and maybe wash them to get any standing or smelly water out and then leave to dry some where warm. If there is a sound deadening foam material I'd say just bin and buy some more from an upholster as it seem to either fall apart or trap the smell.

Think I can guess where the photo was taken, also where the cars are.

Used to bump my injection mini all the time!
Interesting, injection systems need power to energise the fuel pump to get pressure in to the fuel rail. Then there is all those lovely sensors that need electrickery to communicate with the ECU, for the ECU to tell the coils to spark ignite the fuel when it gets there. Also unburnt fuel is a bad idea for catalysts converters.
Modern cars now even need to be reprogrammed for a new battery.

When the battery was slowly giving up the ghost on my new Mini I used to push start it by myself all the time. Get it going then run alongside, jump in, ignition on, in gear, let out the clutch, and we're away.

It did have no interior though so it was quite a bit easier to push than Dammit's Volvo. Although as has been said, he does live at the top of a big hill.

Your battery wasnt toast then. Or the system was different. My VW won't kick start for the life of me. I used to kick start my jeep like it was nothing.
VW full of weird "saftey" stuff though. Clutch has to be in to get the starter to click, for example. Even in neutral.

What charger can I grab from Halfords that fulfills the twin requirements of being cheap but decent?

Buy cheap buy twice.

I'm sure this one's fine. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_894769_langId_-1_categoryId_255205
I have an older model that looks similar, and it's worked fine for years.
If your battery's flat though, it might be knackered. How old is it? It might be time to replace it. -

can anyone recommend a machine shop?

Machine Mart? They probably sell loads of the things :-)

Hilarious :P
I stripped the spare engine on the weekend, ready for the rebuild. I did all of the work up at Sarah's Uncle's place. It is a petrolhead's wonderland. banks of webers on racks, four(!) lotus twinks, rare racing bits. awesome. the marcos in the photo is his newly completed racer (which I could get in, but almost couldn't get out of...), the elan sprint is the b road blaster, and in the garage is an elan 26r racer. he has had some belters, too.
anyway, the engine is 35 years old and still on the original bearings, pistons, rings, etc. Everything looked pretty good, too - could have got away with a re-ring. i now need the machine work done. his shop are busy for months before the start of the season.
in search of the magical 100bhp!

I can ask my chap for a recommendation, but he is Midlands based- too far away?
-
• #18818
yeah, probably. cheers. Watford way would be ideal, but anywhere around London would do. there's plenty on the interweb, I just thought i'd see if anyone had recommendations.

There is a place (somewhat oddly) just off Lordship Lane- a side road opposite the area of the derelict police station.
I ran past a while ago and noticed a stack of engine blocks - on closer inspection (i.e. being nosy) it's an engine rebuilding specialist.

I think it was the battery, when I eventually got fed up of this ritual, I replaced the battery and didn't have a problem again. It didn't have any of those bullshit safety systems.
