Can anyone recommend an honest, reliable mechanic south of the river (SE1, SE11, somewhere central ish?) who preferably does VAG (golf mkIII in my case) but I suspect that any mechanic would be able to figure out the massive clonking on gear change 1/2/3 at low speed I am currently experiencing....
thank you
What kind of clonking and when? This place is really good:

He's looked after my MKIII several times and is honest, main guy's name is Andy. What's the mileage and model of your Golf?

If I had 7k burning a hole in my pocket I so would:

Started life as a 2-litre, but has been rebuilt to a far higher spec than the original 2.5-16. Truly amazing car, built by a properly trained Mercedes technician.

Rode past a Renault Elf 5 maxi in a garage in arse-end-of-nowhere rural France today. Tried to get pics but too sunny outside and dark inside for them to come out.

Pug prototype from '86.
I'd prefer it with only one row of seats and shortened to match

So, it turns out that Goodwood is bloody ace. Can't believe I wasted time and effort going to the old British Motor Show and British GP: Goodwood is a far, far better day out. Amazing. Definitely going next year.

Goodwood is a great day out.
I went down to see my parents this weekend, coming back up the M3 this afternoon and the driver of the new Porsche Boxter discovered that the answer to "can I stay with this 17 year old 172,000 mile Volvo?" was not what he thought.

So for my first car I'm considering a land rover defender , anyone driven one or got any experience of one?

I'd not seen it finished, there is a build thread for it on Turbobricks (although that forum was down when I last looked at it)

I get yourself to the relative safety of the car appreciation thread. A defender only if you have the wax jacket and gun dog to match...
