  • It's funny, at the time of each purchase many said that Chris Evans overpaid for both his 250s.
James Coburn's old 250 GT California apparently didn't even have its original engine, and the Series II GTO he paid so much for needed a considerable amount of work before Ferrari Classiche would even grant it a certification.
Evans apparently made £6.5 million profit when he sold the GTO last year. Madness.

What's even crazier though, is what Anthony Bamford paid for his Series I GTO.
He didn't technically 'pay' for it, he swapped one of a pair of ex-007-promotional Aston Martin DB5s for it, for which he had paid the grand total of...
    Fifteen hundred quid.

  • Not you. Anthony Bamford.

  • emails old man

Yep going with mi e tomorrow when he's back in UK

  • Mine would never buy ancient Italian engineering.

  • Italian engineering used to be associated with making beautiful things that fall apart.

  • In the era of that 'Rarri it did, anyway.

Ahhh the good old days. My dad was talking to a customer of his the other day about cars that he'd had way back. He was talking about his Daytona and various other cars and then casually drops into conversation that he once owned this way back when....

  • Yikes. I much prefer them when they look like this.

  • I just saw a Z1, fuck me I'd forgotten just how cool they are. Especially when driven with the doors open as this fella was.

  • friend just purchased one of these: 2006 JCW Checkmate

  • There's an E9 quietly rotting away next door. The owner parked it up, in direct California sunlight, 5 years ago. Didn't even so much as cover it up.
I'd love to slot a slightly more modern six-pot into it. Those earlier shark-nose cars are the definitive BMW for me.
I like E30s, but when an E21 rolls by it steals the show for me.

  • Just went and saw the Ferrari....sat inside and creamed my pants

  • Amazing. not that long ago, £100k would have bought you that Ferrari.

  • One is guessing the sum of 1500 ponds was paid in teh 60's?

  • Which days or day should i buy for the goodwood fos?

  • All, thursday can be had for free but you need to have kept an eye out.

  • One is guessing the sum of 1500 ponds was paid in teh 60's?
    Yes, 1969.

  • How much was the cost of a house at the time? Or average working persons earnings?

  • No idea. I'm 36.

  • Well the average working person salary per year was around 3 times less than the car at the time which was in 1969 for sale second had for $8900.
