The Future of the Internal Combustion Engine - Inside Koenigsegg - YouTube
20% fuel efficiency and 50% improvement on emissions is epic. Also 30% up on torque and power. And this is still only of version 5 of the actuators...

Well after all this time I can now legally drive!! Turned 17 today. Got my L plates, insurance, my mini and mum in the passenger seat! Been waiting for this day for the longest time

Indeed - properly impressive stuff that could open up a whole new area of engine tuning.
I wonder why not use electrical actuators rather than pneumatic though? (Although the air-tank turbo idea sounds awesome!)

Stupid answer, but battery weight?

Could be something to do with signal interference?

Cost, complexity, weight.
I would imagine the potential for failure of a pneumatic valve actuator is a few orders of magnitude lower than for an electrical one. Pneumatic valves are proven in F1.Electric ones would require linear motors, electrical connections, etc, right in the hot, wet explosive part.
Pneumatic channels, and possibly the actuator bodies themselves can be cast right into the head. -

What are peoplethoughts on a £5k family wagon? Was looking at B6 Passats or A4's but interested in other opinions beyond my VAG blinkered eyes.

The Citroen C5 is nice. 2.2HDi is quick while still being fuel efficient.
Volvos can be a little thirsty.

Drop it on a post millenia A4 Quattro.
For fun.

what are your requirements?
Fast?
Cheap to run?
Good handling?
Fun?
FWD/4WD/RWD? -

Well I Currently have a 2000 Audi S3 with an overbored 1.9 20V and a TD05 20g big turbo with supporting modifications, getting it on the rollers to sort a custom map in the next couple of weeks, hoping for 400+
Most things will be better on fuel than that!
So up for sale it goes as its too tempting to boot it and the Fiancee is pregnant so cant be messing about with stupid HP cars and a little one in the back.
Not keen on the aesthetics of the C5, the A4 is a good shout, really like the look of the B6 Passat.
Anyone had any experience of BMW's or Merc's?

I also have a MK2 project with a 2.0L ABFon ITB's for fun so the family car needs to stay as that really.
Otherwise the sensible daily will spiral out of control like the S3 did!
