Maplethorpe != porn
Virtually all his pictures are porn. Or 'erotica' as it's called if it's in black and white.
Now that is objectification. cutting off the face and getting the tackle out.

it says a lot about you that you can only imagine someone looking at a picture of another human being as 'slavering'
You're the only person (so far) to have posted porn on this thread.
Lynx has the hots for Heston Blumenthal
It is interesting that every time a pic of a penis is posted it is referred to as porn. Very conservative approach to sexuality on what is supposed to be an open minded and healthy forum.

It is the only picture of naked genitalia on this thread

I believe it was Mapplethorpe who first said:
'Girl I wanna make you sweat, sweat till you can't sweat no more, and if you cry-y, I wanna push it push it some more." -

anyway, I'm enjoying this discussion/argument (more than the pictures of people or the ornithology), but I'm very tired now and have to go to bed. I have work in the morning, and my typing has gone to shit.
Night all.

That male was objectified.

and that was my point.
Looking at a pic of someone thinking "I want" is a bit strange to me so this thread goes on ignore.

Why, do you want her number?

i think in any debate about sexual objectification, people need to define exactly what they mean by that, and why it made out to appear so much worse than other kinds of objectification.
from wiki
Sexual objectification refers to the practice of regarding or treating another person merely as an instrument (object) towards the person's sexual pleasure.
but when i go about my daily life, i objectify people loads. i treat the bus driver merely as an instrument to get me from A to B without killing me. i treat the doctor as an instrument to improve my health. i treat the teller at a bank no different from an ATM machine. so why are these kinds of objectification accepted whereas sexual objectification is different? and how can any intimate relationship not involve the above description of sexual objectification?

But is it objectifying when you say you find someone physically attractive. The whole package of beauty includes the mind and the personality.
Have a day off Trigger! You're talking about finding someone physically attractive then trying to justify that by telling us that beauty includes the mind and personality...neither of which are physical and neither of which you've experienced, so it is objectifying.
How many of the women posted in this thread have you had conversations with and found out what their personalities are like? Unless any of you have met the girls you're posting pictures of then you're basing your opinion on what you see in the media...it's hardly an in depth look into their mind and personality.
Despite Bluequinns claims that it's actually a 'post flattering photos of girls you think are pretty' thread It's just a thread to talk about girls you'd like to fuck...the clue is in the title so why even try and bullshit about it?
Pistanator already did the hard bit for you so at least have the balls to admit it. He didn't call it the 'birds who's minds and personalities i'd really like to know more about and who i'd like to see some flattering pictures of them looking pretty' thread now did he? -

@Velo L: Those are people's jobs. The women in the pics are not, as far as I can tell, porn stars or prostitutes.
Though if you treat the person in the bank like you treat the ATM that must be a weird wordless scene; or do you talk to the ATM?so it makes a difference if people have given their "consent" to be sexually objectified?
but doesn't it come down to feelings? i.e. basically, sexual objectification is: someone thinks "oh they looks nice, that makes me sexually aroused, i'd like to have sex with them", and doesn't everyone, men and women, think that, from an inherent drive to propagate the species? or am i off the mark?

^ Will a lot of the pictures posted contain women whose job is, partly at least, to present themselves as attractive.

I think this thread has lost its' way somewhat!

the forum is 99% male .. so I think it's normal that threads like these will exist. if the forum was 99% female, i'm sure male-appreciation threads would exist.
VB has made it pretty clear that he isn't willing to censor us, so if you're the one or two people that take offence then just ignore it.. the upside is, you have the freedom to create any kind of thread you like, without it being removed, or people bickering about whether or not it's morally corrupt.

yep, but men tend to place a much higher importance on physical beauty than females do, for reasons probably linked to fertility. this is true across all populations.

This all reminds me a lot of this:
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/05/28/101-being-offended/
In honesty, we are all "objects" in our actual lives and especially on the internet.
In the public domain, either standing outdoors or if you have pictures of yourself on the web, on tv, in publications, you put yourself out to be judged and "physically enjoyed" (funny phrase!) by all who see you.
Human nature 101, unavoidable. A thread like this is not offensive for sensible intelligent people based on the norms of our society.
But it is fair enough if the forum moderators feel that it is not in the taste and ideals of the forum. Especially as it is slowly turning into a soft-porn pictorial thread rather than just naming obscure TV-presenters & minor celebrities like it began.
Ramble ramble.... dont know what im trying to say.....

This is how I met my wife, though.
But IMO that is another type of image. Oh and I hope its the group you.
