I've already got an old Kona Fire Mountain. It's for my son so I'll check in the morning to see what he thinks about the gearing with a 38.
I'm assuming the chainline should be okay?

Before i go and buy online, 48T, 130BCD chainring anyone?
Also need some handlebars, preferably risers for now, and some flat pedals,
Nothing special on the pedals/bars just to get the bike put together so i can swap bits out when i decide exactly what i want

If you mean the type that screws into the bottom bracket shell, most shops should have one for 2 or 3 quid.

I think she means the think you mount the downtube gear adjusters on when your frame doesn't have bosses there.
