Good effort sir, you going to be at Souths tomorrow? Will bring the stem anyways...

    Good on you Murtle.

  • I quit smoking on Chantix though I have tried to do cold turkey on two occasions, but of no use. I have smoked for around 5 yrs with pack a day. Thanks to chantix and the support my family provided me. It really helped me to get over my nicotine addiction and I don’t feel craving anymore. There is one thing which I would like to share and which helped me a lot initially, try having a glass of water when you feel craving the most. It a tough road but it's worth so best luck to all those who want to give up smoking. You can have all the information on chantix here http://www.chantixhome.com/

  • 2 years tomorrow - patches then just wheel power...

  • on my tenth week

  • i really ought to quit. i'm almost there. have cut down to a couple a day now.

  • on my tenth week

    Congrats!
It's a slippery slope back though, so be vigilant.

  • piece of piddle :)

  • On my 3rd week ... Thought I would feel better if I am honest.

Have anyone mentioned all the support you get from the NHS now? There are "quit" centres popping up all over the place..

  • Congrats Murtle, but you'll always be a FAG!

  • ex-fag, i'll have you know
    now i'm a fag-hag

  • I've been bad, Skoota made me bleed when he caught me havin' a cheeky roll-up last night... Gonna redouble my efforts from now on... B's quite scary...

  • i owe ya a kick in da balls........lightweight.

  • Keep it up Joe (and others)! Good stuff. Have also been seriously thinking about stopping, even got some patches in preparation but have too much personal crap going on at the mo' to take the crutch away completely. Best of luck to all who've stopped though.

  • Applied the HTFU method aged 29 and 364 days. From 30-a-day to nothing. Done.

I'd given up several times before this but, looking back, i didn't really want to give up and ended up smoking again. Not a fun of gum, reading the Allen Carr book worked for 6 months, the Allen Carr day course thing worked for about 2 days, other willpower attempts lasted anything from 2 hours to 2 months.

However, I'd always said I wouldn't smoke when I got to 30 and found it annoyingly easy, probably because I actually wanted to give up this time. The skull-fuckingly horrible hangover I had on the day of my actual birthday (having had many beers the night before) helped.

No cravings, no pills, no pseudo-science. Coming up to 3 years now.

I don't believe the "I'm a non-smoker" stuff though. I'm definitely an "ex-smoker", always will be. Non-smokers can have a few drags of a ciggy and never be tempted. Ex-smokers will always have to be careful; one pissed "i can prove how much I've given up by having a tab" and i'd be back on 30-a-day in no time.

Good luck. No matter how cool smoking is (and it is), you're better off without it.

  • right I've given up again. Anyone sees me smoking, please punch me in the face.

  • Don't worry I've got Jim to have a word with the cats..

  • Ha! awesome.

That would be Mia, Ripley will be too busy missing trying to set fire to her tail and knocking ashtrays off the sofa.

  • I'm giving up again on Saturday... I really fucked up, managed to stop for four months before starting again... :[

  • Quitting smoking is hard. I only ever manage to do it when recovering from an illness (cold, flu, virus, etc.), and then by not starting again. Longest I've done it for has been a couple of months, but I will try to persevere this time.

Nicotine patches/gum never worked for me.

  • i found not buying fags helps and then withdrawing from scenes of temptation (ie not drinking)

by breaking the habitual behaviour associated with smoking it helps a great deal

  • I'm on month 5. Used gum for the first 2 weeks then nothing. Last time I quit it only lasted 4 months so I'm hoping that this time it's for good.
