  • Good luck with the no smoking Joe.

I managed to give up 15 years ago and I still maintain its one of the wisest things I have ever done. I was a student and had a really bad cold so was off smoking for a day or so anyway. I went to the doctors to get a sick note so I wouldn't have to do my essay ( as most lazy student fuckers do ) and in the waiting room was a copy of this Readers Digest book on how to give up smoking. Cant remember what it said but it was along the lines of viewing yourself as a non smoker and that you have never smoked and changing your whole mindset. It really hit me and I never smoked a cigarette again. It helped that I was smoking about 5-10 joints a day back then, but after a few months the nicotine cravings had completely gone and that was it. I could never smoke a cigarette again now. Even though if I smoke a joint it has tobacco in it, the whole mindset of smoking is gone and I don't view it as smoking and I have no more physical or social addiction to cigarettes or nicotine - if you know what I mean

  • Giving up smoking means giving up drugs reefers too

  • Drugs are for hippies, I'm 100% punk rock...

  • keep it up joe & dooks.

murtle, man up you whiny tart

  • an oxygen rush is pretty similar to the hit you get from smoking. so if you get a craving, stand up, take 5 massive gulps of air. it worked for me, it might for you

  • Six months for me, had not thought that quitting had made much difference but in a (not racing at all, honest) sprint this morning I reallised that I could go much deeper into oxygen debt than I used, and my chest did not hurt like hell after a hard sprint.

Also I don't need to pop outside every 15 minutes anymore, which is nice.

  • Two weeks so far, looking good... Been battered on the shandies a coupla times and didn't buckle... Also managed to score a limited edition black nicotine inhalator... Fucking awesome... [/update]

^ But in shiny black... Wicked...

  • nice one joe, 5 weeks for me, cold toikey

  • Mmm, turkey... How's your appetite?

  • normal now i think, after a bit your body gets used to releasing sugar or whatever at a normal rate.

  • Yeah, mine hasn't really changed... Win, win... Keep it up, Josh... :]

  • cheers, when are you losing the inhalator?

  • Never, it looks awesome... ;]

  • Get a piece of string yet?

  • And some bacon?

  • Hope you don't mind if I crash this conversation!...3rd day not smoking and its by far the hardest! Not sure if that is just because its Monday at work but please tell me it gets easier??

  • yeahhhh it does, especially the satisfaction of thinking "bam! i made the hump"

    helpful website www.whyquit.com nice graph

  • That graph is just about spot on for how i have felt over the past days, Will definately check that site out thanks.

  • np, this book may also be helpful http://ffnicotine.com/ is free, i also read the easyway to quit smoking but preferred the other one, as it has more practical advice, e.g. the first time you drink do so at home to help break the associate with alcohol, first time going out to pub don't drink to break the association with pub etc.

the first few days feel quite bad, but the cravings become less frequent and intense and your ability to resist temptation improves.

  • Cheers Velo. Will definately check these out.

  • Over 7 weeks now... Forgot to put my patch on this morning, don't feel too bad just a bit lethargic if anything, less energetic... I'm gonna have a suck on my inhalator... Very pleased so far, starting to get my puff back... :]

  • 3rd day not smoking. going surprisingly well! Easier than when i quit for a few months last year. Pretty much going to have to boycott booze for a few months though.

  • i just decided to again today. blah. what a silly idea already. been reading back over the blog i started last time when i managed 3 months. i think it's important to keep up the excitement of having quit, and to keep rewarding/reminding yourself of the positives of having quit.

  • im on the trying to stop bus..if cold turkey don't work thinking of doing the hypnobabble method...day one
