Quitting smoking is hard. I only ever manage to do it when recovering from an illness (cold, flu, virus, etc.), and then by not starting again. Longest I've done it for has been a couple of months, but I will try to persevere this time.
Nicotine patches/gum never worked for me.
Still going strong: coming up to 4 months with no smokes (cold turkey after a bout of swine flu). Not sure why this time I succeeded where previously I have failed. Maybe I just finally grew up...?

I went 4 days during swine flu. Felt fine (well, as far as smoking was concerned). Then one trip to the pub.. Poof!

Yeah, that's how it has always been for me in the past - will power fine until a certain level of drink imbibed. This time I guess I actually meant it when I said I wanted to quit.

Helps that it's now rather parky outside- staying in the nice warm pub appeals.

I try to avoid any social occasions when I'm quitting. Like you said, a couple of drinks and few mates with smokes and my free will just isn't enough anymore.

Have not smoked since the 2nd, going well so far.
However I tipped the scales at 80kg dead this morning, and on the 2nd I was approx 77kg.
Hopefully I just need to visit the thunderbox chamber with a good book, but I fear that the weight may be trickier than that to shift.

having one or two cigarettes when you're having a drink is fine, people should realise that this is fine, and it isn't necessary to buy a 20 pack next day just because 'you cheated last night anyway'
stopping smoking really is a piece of cake, just stop buying cigs and just ponce them off people when you're having a drink. Easy

Nicorette inhalor works for me- gives you something to do with your hands, and gives you quite a hit of nicotine when you use it.
I've gone from being a pretty heavy smoker to zero with it, and my concern that I'd just end up using the inhalor all the time was groundless.

That is why I am trying to quit.

I will get one of these tomorrow when I get paid. Can you just get them from boots?

buy a massive jar of extra chewies - eat one when you feel like a ciggie.
by the time the gum goes shit, the urge will pass. -

Big Red has burt trees in those last 8 weeks!
Speaking of which... you out later fella...
Does smoking a couple roll ups after 3 or 4 pints constitute a problem worth managing or am i being a nonce...

i would have smoked the pot anyway.
9 weeks ago i would have smoked mebbe 2 or 3 reefers (so, say that includes 2 ciggies) plus at least 10 golden soldiers in an evening. 8 weeks ago, i was overcompensating for the lack of nicotine by smoking shitloads more joints (which is cheating - granted), but not one cig. now that i am used to it, the reefer levels are back to normal and i still haven't had a fag.
overall - nicotine levels are down by a huge amount and i don't feel the need at all (even when boozing).

You can indeed- I have some spares that I can give you also, although I will not be around until Sunday as I am off to see Eddie Izzard in Eastbourne tonight, and will be staying on the coast for a few days.
Any pharmacist in Lambeth should do it, I went to the Boots in Waterloo Station
