I wish they were that fun. They taste like you are eating an ash tray. I like them though as they are disgusting enough not to overdo them.

You've got to want to give up. If you want to you will. If you don't you'll start up again so you may as well just enjoy the fags until you do want to stop.
I guess different things work for different people. I just stopped buying fags, others like to make a bit of a ceremony of it.
As I said earlier in this very thread, when I quit I knew immediately that I was done with smoking. I knew. Couldn't tell you how or why. It felt different to every other attempt to quit.I have bummed the odd fag now and then over the years. Only when I've had a lot to drink and need to raise the blood pressure a bit. It's never made me want to buy a packet or start again. I've smoked cigars and again, not had the inclination to follow them up with fags.
James wondered if smoking weed was better than fags. No. If you're mixing it with tobacco, no proper filter then of course it's worse than just having a fag.

As BlueQuinn posted you want to give up it took me 6 months to get to that stage and I used hypnotherapy, it is not for everyone but it worked for me.
Understanding that you have a habit and want to give up are the first steps forward.

Been using the Nicorette Inhalator to help with giving up smoking.
It’s the funny white stick thing that you put a cartridge into that contains 10Mg of Nicotine, you breath it in just like a fag.
Anyway, I went to see the Nurse at my Doctors surgery last Monday to get a prescription- which I only managed to pick up this morning.
So I popped into Boots at lunch to hand it over.
They gave me 12 cartridges in exchange for my £7.20.
I did say when I looked in the bag that the nurse had promised me 2 weeks worth of giving up aids- 12 cartridges is the maximum daily limit, so would be probably two days worth.
The pharmacist agreed this was a bit rubbish, then asked if I worked in Lambeth- which I said I did.
He then said that Lambeth Council would provide me with 2 months (remember this bit) worth of giving up aids if I popped in every Monday for a CO test.
I thought this was a good deal, so asked to sign up.
I also had my CO test- which was down from 8 last Monday to 0 today, slightly strange as normally people have a CO level of 1-2. I must be special.
Anyway, he then read the back of the pack, saw that the maximum dosage was 12, stuck 12 by 7 into his calculator and got 84.
So off he went and got me 2 X 42 packs of cartridges, and handed them over saying to come back next Monday for the same again.
The packs are £23 each, so that was £46 for free, whereas the prescription was for £14’s worth at a cost of £7.20.
But there is more- two months is approx nine weeks, so that’s 9 X £46, or £414 that the Borough of Lambeth is willing to spend to help me give up smoking.
Good eh? -

Much cheaper than a serious smoking-related illness in the future. So yes - very good.

i tried the inhalator thing and didn't really like the taste of it.

Think about the tar you get.

Probabaly because being high is more noticeable. I never get a full nicotine hit from a J but thats not what im after.
Ive found that keeping smoking down to social or drunken situations has helped me way more, and especially now since its getting colder, i ownt be sitting in a park or on my balcony chain smoking my way into an early grave.

Not worried about the future- I'm going to live forever innit?
I am however concerned about losing my new rather expensive teeth, hence the giving up.
I have not had a fag for a week- the longest time in 15 years that I have not done so.
I'd say the inhalor things work well (40 or so a day to 0) if you have the motivation to keep using them.

Inhalators are brilliant... If I wasn't such a retard I'd still be a non-smoker now... I'll be quitting (for good this time) before christmas...

I've been toying with the idea for a while but haven't quite got to the stage where "I really want to do this"... soon though. Heading home for xmas so that sounds like a good opportunity as fewer of my mates back home smoke. I think I know I"m going to quite soon - which has just made me smoke more in the lead up. Not wise logic I know.

I've tried to give up in a half arsed way a few times- but never really wanted to, just thought I should.
Now that I have a concrete reason to do so it's not that hard (he says with inhalor clamped between his teeth).
Smoke and the failure rate of my operation goes from 1 in 10 to 1 in 4, and the operation is a one shot £5,000 deal- not enough bone left to try again if the teeth pull out of the jaw.
Plus finding £5,000 to try again is not going to happen.

i haven't had a duzza since my stay in the infirmary.
it is amazing what a chest pain scare can do for giving up.(i have still been smoking grass, but i figured i would have also been smoking the ciggies, so it still counts)
after 5 weeks, i think i have broken the back of it.

Good for you, mate!
(sorry for taunting you through the window on Tuesday - I didn't know then how important it is for you to quit)

Champix gave my mate an epilectic fit. I've pretty much stopped smoking after 10 years. Used a combination of things. Read the wotsit dude book (the long version) which was really boring but does drum things in.
Biggest advice I could give is if you smoke premades switch to tobacco. Having stopped so many times in the last 4 yerars, the physical / chemical withdrawl is so much worse off nasty chemical malbroros etc. Then when you smoke rollys smoke fat ones so strong you really can't handle them and then the thought of them will start to make you feel sick. Then when you thnk you feel like a cig, you'll think twice.
I seem to have somehow NLPed myself into stopping as fags make me feel sick now. Smoke still smells nice and can be the reason you have one, then realise its nasty again.

True dat. Marlboros are the most evil ones around. Whenever I'm about to quit, I switch to these before I stop altogether:

Well I haven't smoked since friday/saturday morning. Have to stop for an operation on thursday and then stop for six weeks afterwards to aid the healing process.
Hopefully it will stick.
So dammitt this stop smoking thing, which chemist was it?
