  • Two men sentenced in Manchester, one for 10 weeks the other 16 weeks. I really hope this won't affect their holiday plans.

They'd booked a 2 week holiday in Rice World just outside of Paris.

  • Breaking news from Planet X!!!!!

This week only - Europe's biggest Shimano pedal sale!

    cheers for the email?

Rapha restocked for the second leg of the Summer Sale. Get in!

  • intellectualising for a moment, if postmodern society is characterised by the deconstruction of social institutions and the norms they purport to embody, and all value judgments are undermined by their apparent relativism, except that of consuming, ever present and perpetually reinforced, is it really surprising that those who have not been born into or built themselves a stake in society, willingly participate in an amoral orgy of individualistic consumerism?

Of course not. But who said we live in a post-modern society? Not me!

  • Going out to get beer, wish me luck.

  • Something I find mildly curious/amusing:

When a load of absolute cunts set fire to cars and nick rice and jeans, certain people are like "yes, but what is making them do this and think like this and think it's ok???"

    BUT

When law-abiding citizens put forward strong and occasionally controversial opinions about the above-mentioned situation, they are branded "sickening" or "batshit insane" by the same people. there is no "what makes these people feel so strongly about this?" or "where has society gone wrong and why do they think it's ok to call thieving cunts names?". Is it because we are the 'haves' and not the 'have nots', and so we should know better?

    Just sayin'.

  • Who said* post-modern*?! Mention metaphysics of presence as well and I will log off.

  • @ Superprecise: Good point, well made.

  • Will someone not think of the kits......?????!!!

  • @ Superprecise: Good point, well made.

It just looks too me that I'd get more sympathy as a thieving cunt, than a father of three minding my own business.

  • Fuck !

I bet the long winter nights just fly by round at yours.

  • Clearly, those clearing up the streets are nothing but fascists.

Come on. Is this a year one logic class? Do you really believe those two things really analogous?

  • intellectualising for a moment, if ....selves a stake in society, willingly participate in an amoral orgy of individualistic consumerism?

We'll be the judge of that.

Wo, wo, wo... I thought you only had one child!

Immigrants with numerous children get zero sympathy, even if they are good at providing manual labour a reasonable price.

    remarkable codswallop

Two of the kids are not my natural children. And they're third generation! >>>>>>>

FYI - I can't help but notice that you're veering towards the dreaded shores of "intellectual snob." A small course correction on the tiller may be in order. Your arguments have been better than that to date.

  • Who said* post-modern*?! Mention metaphysics of presence as well and I will log off.

i think it's important, people ask how the rioters can behave the way they do, where are their morals, where are their values? the truth is that any person or institution purporting to express moral or value judgments has been systematically undermined, or 'deconstructed' over the last 40 years - in their place, the individual has been elevated above all things. where once people talked about duty and responsibility now people talk about rights and entitlements. the individual is king, and their value is as a consumer. the violent looting embodies this to a tee in my view.

I'm so glad I didn't go for that Erasmus grant and stay at uni. I'd end up in the same way. At least a language barrier made me incoherent and down with the street. I'm maybe a snob, but nobody can call me intellectual, which is apparently desirable in the UK.
