You don't shoot at school here?
I did

shooting and shooting at someone are worlds a fucking part.

Look all I care about is: When IS Cher Lloyd and Swagger Jagger going to be held responsible for inciting so much madness across the country?
-

Not in my day. Couldn't possibly comment on todays 'youth'.
@ EEI they don't- not unless you're at Eton.
I know how to shoot- Dad used to shoot competitively so taught me young at grandparents in country.
I however am strongly against guns being in private households, and though I have a gun licence, I would never own a gun myself.
I'm asking because we used at school. Mainly BB guns, but also rifles. Hated it.

I'm just intrigued by all the 'shoot them' comments. How many guns do we collectively own on LFGSS? How many of us actually know how to fire one or more properly? How many people know the fear you get when you hesitate to sqeeze the trigger against your first live target?
I don't want a list, I just assume it's a very low number on all counts which makes most of the comments completely worthless.
You're missing the point, really. It's not an exercise in expressing technical ability.

Surely the motivating factors would be community, family, role models, something to lose, etc?
I don't see how discipline, or intimidation, would have made a difference for your 'friends'.
There's some good debate online right now about segregated society, leaving the lower classes behind, etc, at the moment. It's a much more fruitful area for change in my opinion.
well, this is why I was afraid of using those terms. But I'll try to define them better.
Humiliation doesn't necessarily mean mocking a person or forcing them to look stupid or something silly like that. For instance I was humiliated when my role models/people I cared about became disappointed in me. Many kids don't have role models or parents fit for purpose.. In this case we can either identify some completely bogus 'community leader' or simply embarrass them in front of their dickhead mates..
Intimidation goes with out saying, though. You should be scared of the police if you are committing a crime. The police don't even scare me that much any more, I doubt a hyped up looting kid with all his mates in tow thinks twice.

or cadet force... you're also taught to shoot there. -

Great....knee jerk reaction....further imbalance in society and our justice system.
Bollocks, this person was currently enjoying their summer break from a decent job and decided to travel a fair distance to steal some electronics. They deserve a decent sentence IMO.

But the image of hipsters maiming themselves with guns has considerable appeal...

I agree - was merely answering a question.

Everybody got to have a go (target shooting) at school if you joined the cadets. I happened to be OK at it so ended up shooting competitively for the school. But target shooting on a large outdoor range is so far removed from this stuff. I can't think of anything worse than having to turn a gun on another person.

As long as you hold the gun to the side.
BTW, I thought there was a mention about a use of baton rounds by police not actual shooting dead people and not by members of public. This is like a pass the parcel - half of the original thought is missing.

Precisely, and very few on here have a clue.

See above.

One (but not in this country). I am proficient with many types of firearms. I have used them to defend my property in the past (also not in this country).

Sorry I didn't realise you knew the person.
Yeah, they're a cunt.

Absolutely, "I'd shoot them myself" is an expression of something about what you are prepared to do to protect you children's lives, people seem to want to read it as a claim to marksmanship.

I'm sure it's not easy for anyone - even for a licensed firearms team police officer. It's not like they are shooting people on a daily basis. You'd have to be black hearted to remain unfazed.

Did you not try and talk them out of it? Make them see reason? Or did you just think, not my problem?
You do realise this person is, well, was, a teacher?*
*according to press reports.

You are literally talking about something else.
Q: Is there something you have that you would be prepared to throw yourself in front of a speeding train (with a certain death) to save ?

bullshit. most people espousing the 'string em up and shoot em down' line are saying so in response to what they (or at least what the police should do) to kids on the street. it's fucking sickening.
everything else is mere posturing. the irony of the fact that owning a sidearm in this country is about as illegal as it fucking gets appears to be lost on a few of you.

When a boss asks an employee "Are you going to do this or should I do it myself?" they don't really mean that they'd do it.
