Exactly. It would have all been in black & white back then.

Hadrian famously pissed on the tree whilst on a break from building his wall.

Unfortunately fines are generally permission slips for the rich.
Some councils in London make the fine a percentage of the property value. When the fines were £3k the rich would consider that a fair price to pay to get rid of a tree. When the fine becomes £300k it's more of a deterrent.
But the usual routine now is to hire a dodgy tree company that will do the proper planning permission (for TPO'd trees), then come round and "do some work on it" (i.e. poison it) and then dissolve the company after 6 months so there's no recourse. Owner gets to blame the now dissolved company for doing shit work.

Easily solved by retention of liability for those who ran dissolved companies, no?

You expect a conservative government to add laws re liability for business owners?
-
• #84682
This isn’t a conservative government, it’s a UKIP one.
-
• #84683
Yeah, totally undermine the foundation of modern business for the sake of rich dudes not being able to fell trees yo'
(I understand there might be other reasons for wanting to do this, but small lol)
-
• #84684
That's a pretty huge corporate law change.

It’s amazing how the human mind works. All the much more acute and tragic problems in the country, but a single tree is what gets attention.
Not a dig, nor a pun.

Should be considered for certain sectors.

I guess people are somewhat reigned to the (non)sensical suffering that is a byproduct of capitalism, whilst the nonsensical destruction is more emotionally engaging.
(Also obligatory "people only get to pay attention to what the media chooses to portray", for the most part at least)

Nick Griffin can only look at Suella Braverman and cry...
-
• #84689
Nope, no expectations from them other than an ongoing shit shower for a long time.

• #84690
undermine the foundation of modern business
Please explain how, and why folks shouldn't be held to account?
-
• #84691
Maybe so.
-
• #84692
Sycamores are immigrants Suella approves
-
• #84693
She's too fucking stupid to even know that they're immigrants.
-
• #84694
I understand there might be other reasons for wanting to do this
Adam Smith hated limited liability because he thought it would eventually destabilise capitalism. Karl Marx liked it - for the same reason.

• #84695
Limited liability makes a lot of sense
For people who want to do shit and not be held accountable.
looks into law further as owner of ltd company.
-
• #84696
Thank god we don't have something serious to worry about like poverty, slavery and people dying trying to reach out country for asylum!
Wait a minute....

Nick Griffin can only look at Suella Braverman and cry...
God. I'd totally forgotten about him.
The thought of how much he must be seething about missing his 'moment' has brightened up my afternoon. If only he'd been a bit younger and more relevant around in 2019 he'd have had at least one cabinet job by now.
-
• #84698
Totally! BNP and Ukip both have absolutely no raison d'etre anymore
-
• #84699
Limited liability makes a lot of sense...
Haven't a load of Met Police firearms officers downed tools because they have discovered they don't have limited liability?

The protest only lasted a day or so. Most are back on normal duty.
Yeah! ..wait
