Why is your arbitrary time period of a few centuries
It's not fucking arbitrary, for fuck's sake. Comparing medieval England to the United States is absolutely senseless. Comparing the parallel history of the U.K. to the U.S. makes all kinds of sense for all kinds of reasons, while comparing the previous history of England to nothing is pretty much stupidly pointless.
What is the probability of the next US president being ex-military? Same as the next UK PM, I reckon?
Bollocks. Colin Powell was courted by both major U.S. parties as a potential presidential candidate. Petraeus had a reasonable chance; it didn't work out so far but it's still a possibility. There is no comparison with modern generals in the U.K.

What, 1919 when they manufactured their first tubes?
I like this arbitrary time period. Can we use this one instead?

Why is your arbitrary time period of a few centuries any more relevant than mine? 1780s America doesn’t bear any resemblance to the modern world either.
What is the probability of the next US president being ex-military? Same as the next UK PM, I reckon? That link has petered out.
