Safe seat though? The system is fucked.
-

Ha! Well quite. I'm just saying that you don't need to have gone to LSE to know that if people start from a different premise they might come to a different conclusion.
Funnily enough my main point to undecideds at the time was that nothing that was claimed by Leave either could or would change. Eg "taking control of our immigration". Ironically, we do now have a shortage of a whole load of jobs. And things such as hospitality - chefs for eg now have higher wages, so I guess wtf do I know.

Good to see the ft catching up with my analysis.

The higher wage thing is interesting- and apocryphal according to a number of commentators like Jonathan Portes.
And when you figure in the 20% immediately lost to Brexit and ongoing inflation it means - even if true - that scarcity occupations are losing slightly less than the rest of us.
I do find people on the left who voted for Brexit an amazing thing, some of them of course are simply fools, but others (being charitable) must have been overcome with optimism- that the Brexit delivered by right wing populists supported by a gerontocratic base insulated from consequence would deliver on e.g. strong workers rights.

Not sure why I’m surprised but Johnson really is a tin eared, shameless embarrassment
-
• #71707
I guess red meat to his fans though
-
• #71708
Ah yes, the things you have to do in some jobs. Like binning any leftover self respect ;)
Johnson, cha, the least said the better.
-
• #71709
Sunak has enough “fuck you” money to walk away from this job, any job.
He defends the indefensible not because he has to but because he wants to keep the ever accelerating shitshow on the road. As cod Latin lover Johnson would say, cui fucking bono

That Johnson comment is worse than most people realise. Putin's killing of Ukrainians started in late 2013 when he got snipers to shoot protesters because they were demanding to join the EU. (He also shot some police, hoping to start a violent revolution, which would cause the Ukraine government to ask him to protect them with Russian troops.)

That must be after deductions for food and cabin. I hope.
-
• #71716
They allocate £25 per head per day to feed the crew on a superyacht so £1.80 an hour is shit even with food
-
• #71717
Those freeports that were tried before and didn't really generate that many jobs as it's hard to make them successful and not just a "money for the few" scheme, and it needs government planning, those ones?
-
• #71718
I think i had about 25 bucks per day deducted when i worked on one. There was no space in the crew cabins so i had to have a guest room. It had a clever japanese toilet which washes your ringpiece.

Why cutting fuel duty is a rubbish way to tackle cost of living
-
• #71720
But when it sounds good in the headlines and benefits the people you actually like, it’s a win-win…
-
• #71721
It’s so minimal but creates headlines.
Not entirely sure I agree with the method/ conclusion as surely value needs to be expressed as a percentage not just raw numbers for how it effects different groups? -
• #71722
Leaving aside all other considerations it would be interesting to see at what price per litre we started seeing modal shift.
-
• #71723
Higher than expected would be my guess
-
• #71724
Government gets the money straight back due to the rise in the amount of VAT revenue it makes on the litre as well
-
• #71725
It seems to skip the knock-on effects of fuel duty (e.g. transporting goods).
Although I'm not sure if that would change the conclusion.
Just sounds like a case of deep pockets and a cavalier HR and legal team
