Essay writing and public speaking are different skills. Just like witty journalism and good leadership aren't the same thing.

I’ll have to fact check that, but if true then brilliant.
Bugger. Not, as it appears. About £40K in todays terms.

Dickens was a raving pinko and everyone forgets what a successful businessman Scrooge was.
If he hadn't worked so hard and made so many personal sacrifices he might not have been able to employ Bob Cratchit in the first place.

Exactly.

Could that have had anything to do with both of them being taken from T******? :) (If the first one was, too.)
Also, the Truss one is particularly daft because whoever did it only re-routed the cable and didn't turn the receiver around, so that what is clearly its mouthpiece is still near her mouth.
This wouldn't have happened if it had been an LFGSS Photoshopper, of course.

How far back do you got? It always surprises me how these people get so far in life. They’re all intelligent people with degrees from excellent universities. But if you hear Liz Truss speak you wouldn’t imagine she could work in a supermarket stacking shelves.
I've never heard her speak, and I think no-one is really more intelligent than anyone else if you add up their strengths and weaknesses, but there are certainly people who out of neglect (either their own or that of those supposed to support them, or both) fail to achieve much, and many people who arise in privilege certainly suffer from the latter phenomenon.

This whole “Ah yes the press knew but they had to source it carefully” or “they only just received the leaked material” would be a lot more convincing if there wasn’t a massive revolving door between the press and the top of the Tory party, and if everyone from the top of the Tory party wasn’t either directly related to, or related to by marriage, the editor of one or more papers, magazines or websites. I call bullshit that the press didn’t know and bullshit they wouldn’t have been able to properly source a story if they actually wanted to.
I do.
