Watching the Lewisham attacks (And they were) unfold last night it was very very clear that people had driven here, parked up and strolled into town to go robbing. Fortunately we have Europes largest police station and when the gormless fuckwits noticed it (It's ENORMOUS) and the riot squad streaming out they all fucked off. The damage along Lee High road was concentrated seemingly where their cars were. And these were nice motors, 10k jobs. Try pleading economic hardship' now you tossknockers. Nah, Lewisham was a small but pre-planned shopping spree by out of towners already monied up through unknown 'jobs', but no one told them the South East's police force are based right in the middle.
They just then fucked off down the A2/A20 to the next town till they found less resistance.
^ this. There was a car parked outside our flat with a girl driving then as a crowd headed up Lee High Road 3 guys ran down, jumped in and it turned around and headed toward South Circular.

I'm up Haverstock Hill.
The Camden/Chalk Farm stuff almost spilled up the hill (if thas posible). Haven't read back but if you didn't know Evans in Chalk Farm got sacked. Saw a few youngn's riding very new expensive looking bikes up the hill.
Also saw a few convoys of cars making a quick gettaway here screaming up north, loads a stuff in there with them.

one of the major problems here is that even if these people are caught they know they will get off virtually Scott free. As a teacher I can hand on heart say that we've been trying to tell people that this young generation has a minority that are out of control. Bad news is that the 8 9 10 year olds right now are potentially even worse.
My gf teaches special needs kids* in some of the most deprived areas of Lambeth... She tells stories about the conditions these kids live in that will make your fucking toes curl, most people are too wrapped up in their cosy little middle-class bubbles to know what the fuck is really going on right on their doorsteps... I agree with Tim, you ain't seen nothin' yet...
- This spans disabled kids (Downs syndrome, severely autistic) to very active Lambeth gang members...

Bring in the army. The worst suggestion I've ever heard. Once that's happened, and become normalised, it will become the norm for any protest which could get a bit out of hand.*
Protesting against a war? Bring in the army.
Protesting against cuts? Bring in the army.
*the current disturbances are not protests.

13,000 police officers on duty today/tonight, plus calling in all special constables according to BBC news just now. More than double the 6,000 that were on duty last night.

The scary thing is at the moment I can't see any end in sight for these riots.
What will happen when people start looting houses? I can guarantee that a home owner will end up killing a looter (good on them) and this will get even worse.

And what are they gonna do? Stand there like fucking lemons just like last night. They need to grow some balls.

That's what I've been trying to tell people these last few days. But being wrapped up in their cosy bubbles they can't even conceive the thought that others don't live the way they do.
Simply put: If you have never experienced it, you cannot even imagine it.
And that's a shame, as the realities for those who are in extreme poverty and hardship is something that makes every small thing an impossible task.
I also tried to explain that the youth are furious, that most people are furious. They see corruption in the banks, corruption in politicians, and both of those classes continue without a care, and the poor pay every day. They protested and striked over the future of education and pensions, and no-one really gave a fuck and it didn't change anything.
So now you have enormous swathes of people (not just the youth) angry in a deep way that they're not being listened to or acknowledged.
Someone in Tottenham being interviewed the other day was asked whether rioting works, his response was "Well, you're talking to us now aren't you. You're finally listening now aren't you".
I too think this isn't an end, if anything now that they're learned their power if they act in many small groups (hard to police without an enormous standing force), that this is more likely to happen with greater frequency in the future with far more issues being trigger points for it.

there was an interview on R4 this morning with a girl whose house had been broken into and some guys had piled into her bedroom at 4am and stolen her bag, then apparently when they phoned the locksmiths to get their locks changed they were told they couldn't come round as their van had been stolen at gun point.... scary

True story from a work colleague. His wife works in a 24hr Tesco and they were ordered to shut down at 11 as apparently there was info to say looters were coming. As they were doing this 2 very young girls walked in saying they were getting a drink and were allowed to enter the store. While the workers were tidying the trolleys, the alarm goes off at the exit doors. They look around to see these 10ish year old girls running across the car park with dvd players heading to a parked BMW with its back doors open. Some gave chase only to be driven at by what looked to be both the girls parents.
Now then, who was saying these people aren't cunts?

They are not protests and that is exactly WHY this is an appropriate time to use some police brutality!
These are just yobs destroying everything because they are revelling in their moronic destruction, violence and the chance for free shit.
Stuff like this (the looting and vandalism etc) will destroy freedoms for everyone. People are stuck in places, not able to do their jobs and travel around the city freely. They are at risk of robbery or having their homes and cars destroyed and having their rights limited in the future.
All because of these yobs. They are easy to idenity in their crowds when charging towards police etc. I dont think it would be a terrible idea to go cracking skulls TBH.
unless cameron pulls something out of his arse in his address and gives the scum a reason to think twice about doing it again they'll just carry on until there's no more to loot.
