  • That and he wouldn't want to soil Sir Winston, given he hero worships him.

  • That the PM gets a 30k annual refurb allowance is in itself a disgrace

  • I think it's reasonable (admittedly I also have no issue with MPs getting a significant pay rise).

It's a lot of money but it's there to avoid this kind of shit where money starts coming from donors and you have potential independence issues. Also worth bearing in mind that it's not a flat that they own, expecting individuals to pay refurb costs for a flat they don't own and may have very limited benefit from is a hard sell. Whether or not £30k is too much is another matter but it's small fry in the big scheme of things, particularly given that it's a listed building.

  • There is no justification for funds available for refurbishment of up to 30k a year. Kinda spendy I think.

    That's 75% of a new kitchen annually

  • I kind of agree with you on this. Surely the No 11 flat should just be kept looking smart and only refurbed every ten years or so? £30k per year is a lot of coats of paint!

  • Who among us wouldn't demand a full redecoration (not to mention fumigation and incineration of all furniture and white goods) when moving into a flat that was previously occupied by Boris Johnson?

  • Imagine moving in as PM and you're presented with Boris' used mattress?

  • That's 75% of a new kitchen annually

Fucking Christ, not my kitchen it isn't.

  • yeah I did think that after posting it...... but the Golf club thread >>>>>

  • Johnson to retain final say over whether he broke the ministerial code. Just doesn't give a single fuck, does he?

  • He's personally fucking skint isn't he; he earned way more as a journalist + MP than as PM and his divorces and official and unofficial child maintenance payments must be through the roof.

  • Ian Dunt's twitter coverage of the PMQ exchange earlier is spot on.

Bit baffled by the number of people who think Starmer did a poor job today.

  • Is that the twitter verdict? People shouldn't read twitter.

I wouldn't say he did poorly, but it hasn't left Johnson any weaker than he was before PMQs. The momentum is with the press (and Johnson's own incompetence) for now.

  • Is that the twitter verdict? People shouldn't read twitter.

no, its a line by line summary of the key exchanges.

  • Is that the twitter verdict? People shouldn't read twitter.

no, its a line by line summary of the key exchanges.

I think we've misunderstood each other. I meant your comment about Starmer having done poorly. I.e., is that the twitter verdict, not Dunt's ramblings.

  • Aren't you asking quite a lot if you expect him to be significantly weakened by PMQs?

I can't think of a time that has happened to any PM, on any topic, really.

Sorry mate, totally misunderstood. Not sure if thats the Twitter verdict but my social bubble is full of Labour voters who are convinced that Starmer is a waste of space and that maybe we should give that Corbyn guy a shot :D

  • It is a fair bit of money but I view it as (in theory) being high enough that you shouldn't get issues with the PM having to cast around for funding. There also shouldn't be an expectation that the PM can fund it out of their own pocket unless we want to carry on with a load of rich old Etonians in there.

Plus, it's a Grade 1 listed building. As easy as it is to take the piss out of £800 rolls of wallpaper I suspect you can't just nip down to Fads and get something that will be suitable.

DUP rescuing the Tories again. I hope Johnson gets her something nice to say "thank you."
