commenter on that article agreeing with him using popular movie name and 2 digit year, most definitely not a troll farm account.

Anyone who is calling that dead burglar "scum who got what he deserved" is probably also slagging Khan off for knife crime stats.

The enthusiasm of some people with "give that man a medal!!!!" doesn't sit well with me.
Totally understand someone bringing something to defend themselves, I would hide or grab a something if not given any choice, but a man did die...
I guess people are angry about burglary/what they feel are low sentences/lack of police attention, and it never happened to me but it must be super scary if someone is in your house. Still, wtf.

BBC travel/traffic news just warned of several thousand teenagers on bikes expected to ride around central London this afternoon leaving from Tooley St. Is it bikestormz? (Also, forum rides never made the news.)
-
• #51766
Yep Bikestormz. 'Knives down, bikes up' which is a message they've been rocking for a while but this is in response to all the recent murders.
The estimate from somewhere is 2-5k but I suspect that's way high.
Forum rides never had lots of young black men on them though did they? It's a shame society can't see that Bikelife is a way more positive choice than gang life...

old
newsarticle!
was pretty sure they were today's ride, but a quick google didn't bring it up. -
• #51770
yes, the article talks about the origins of the ride rather than today's one.
-
• #51771
to be fair the travel news wasn't disparaging about it, just warned of disruption much the same as they do any other protest/event. is it deliberate that they never say what the protest is for? (no matter how official)
I was just kidding about the forum rides, I think bikestormz is all round pretty awesome. I was more surprised that something which is mostly youths self-organising actually made it onto BBC radar in advance.

Has there actually been a significant (in the statistical sense) number of murders? To be both callous and a nerd: I'm guessing murders follow a Poisson distribution which means that there is always a chance of 20 murders in a month even if the typical murder rate is 1 per month. It feels to me like this merely is a statistical blip that has been blown out of proportion by a rabid media (shocker), but I've not seen any articles or whatever where they've conducted a proper analysis.
It's important because it's the distinction between random chance and a causal mechanism that has increased murders. If it's the former, nothing you can do. If it's the latter we need to find out what the cause of the increased murder rate is and get it sorted out.

We'll have to wait and see.

The brown areas on a banana which indicate that it is ripe, show up as fluorescent under a uv lamp.
The brown areas on a banana which are there as a result of bruising, do not.
The animals which have uv on their visible spectrum, can tell that the fruit is ripe to eat.
Might want to remove the photo.
