Yup, The fires that appear to be in the flats is just smoke coming from a large car fire at the base of the building... Sky News has an HD camera there and I can't see any flat fires.
Phew. Sorry if I worried anyone, it looked very real for a moment. Unusual camera angle from a helicopter, I suppose.

What gets to me the most is small businesses being ruined--I've shopped in that little shop in Clarence Road, and places like that really don't make much money. That and people's homes being torched. Absolutely disgusting.
Can you insure against "civil disturbance" or are they completely fucked?

People's lively hoods and homes are being razed to the ground by their own communities.
It seems to be all about lively hoods, tbh...

Really appreciate but I won't leave my flat, I truly think it's an easy target, all of my neighbors too. The 1st floors... :S
The helicopters noise is driving me nuts!!!You think you being there makes it less of an easy target? If you feel unsafe get the fuck out.

Kicking off on East Dulwich Road Tesco, gang of yoovs.
Can't see much point of them looting East Dulwich, unless they want some nice homemade quiche and some organic wine.Beers in the fridge.

I think the violence on rye lane has spread to the tesco near queens road station. WHere it'll go from there....
We've been away for the week end as passed through peckham about 5.30 this evening. There was a very strange atmosphere, and then lots of riot police. 15 mins later and we'd not got home. I'm half way between peckham rye and queens road and we've had the bbc helicopter over our house for about an hour and it's just moved.

Absolutely spot fucking on! No fucking about over there when this stuff goes down.
When I came to London (2006) I couldn't understand how anyone could even think about fucking with the police. You just didn't do it or your arse would be well and truly kicked (if it deserved it). Now obviously NI had it's share of bigoted sensibilities in the RUC back in the day but not for at least 15 years so today's generation don't have that excuse. It still amazes me how well they deal with a thousand yoots shooting at them and throwing petrol bombs/bricks/scaffold poles. And generally it's regular officers on the front line, not just the boys in the black boiler suits.

Pembury Estate is FUBAR.
Big battle in Stratford, according to my wife. Loads and loads of gangs first coming down the Romford Rd towards The Mall and now hundreds of riot police are storming the shopping centre.

It didn't look that way half an hour ago when I cycled past a couple of times (although, as I said, I saw some kids who looked "hungry" for it. But I assumed they were on there way to or from some other trouble).

I was wondering about insurance for shops, its not just the damage loss of income etc

Random bullshit all along Lee High Road in Lewisham, looks like kids who couldn't get at the high street fanned out.

I heard Stratford was going to be hit tonight so it should be contained pretty well.
-

I agree, but the majority of these looters are kids, sending in heavily armed, highly trained officers to beat the shit out of them needs to be thought about.
hmm..
batons?
dogs?
rubber bullets? -

For many, the answer to the crime problem can be summed up in one word, "bring back Borstal".
