  • lies, you can't spell "breeding" or "Daily Mail"

    One of those was intentional...

  • So far kids were getting away with looting, so I'd exect it to kick off in any other ghettofied area. Probably Lewisham, Battersea, Harrow Rd.
If they're not stopped, local gangs will think they're missing out on plasmas and body moisturisers.

  • There will be hundreds if not more of unemployed teenagers today...

Quite few kids from my family who are in the college/uni and also work for mobile phone shops and department stores have had their workplace vandalised.

  • Only reason I think Lewisham would be spared is we have the largest police station in Europe with horses etc. across the high street from the precinct that contain JD Sports, Footlocker and all the phone shops.

Then again there have been at least two stabbings at the bus stops 30 feet from the stations front doors so it ain't a massive deterrent

  • will be interesting to see if any other areas kick off tonight, got a feeling the police will be tested alot over the next few weeks.

  • So my flatmate picked a good weekend to move. Cue several round trips between Stoke Newington, Winchmore Hill, Wapping and Bow in a van.

On Saturday it was just roads cordoned off - A10 north of Bruce Grove and south of Seven Sisters. It looked like Wood Green was closed north of Turnpike Lane too. A couple of fire engines and plenty of police hanging around there.

Sunday was another story. We just avoided the area as much as we could. Bow to Winchmore Hill we did by taking the A12 out to Leyton and then the north circular. This was around 1am I guess. There were a few shifty looking types walking along the north circular near the Edmonton business park where Ikea is. We missed the A10 junction so came off at Green Lanes, passing a shop being looted in Palmers Green and all along Green Lanes there were little groups of "young people with their hoods raised" as I think the BBC described them, a few with bandannas over their faces.

After that we had to head back into town again to return the van to the hire place in Dalston which was where things got fun. Got the bike out and decided I'd just head up the A10 and deal with any diversions I came across. It was raining and I didn't fancy a massive detour at 2am on Sunday night although we had seen a couple of dark blue police riot vans heading north on the A10 earlier.

So, got to Seven Sisters and noticed some people kicking at a hole in the Tesco window there which was really just the precursor. At the top of the hill the A10 was blocked, diverting traffic down towards Tottenham Hale, which I didn't really fancy doing but well, there'd be plenty of traffic, right?

Anyway, I ended up riding around the backstreets just to the east of the High Road. Loads of little groups of people, all looking shifty. I think I got to the junction with Spencer Road and Landsdowne Road and the street lights were out - completely pitch black then bam hit a pothole and went flying. Great!

No harm done, but there was a police roadblock down the road so I had to head east again. Ended up on Willoughby Lane, then Brantwood Road, then the High Road before heading west along past White Hart Lane.

    Fun times.

  • It was predominantly the commercial chains in Brixton that got done over... Most of Atlantic Road / CHL etc. seem fine. Only Brixton Road and the like had their windows put in.

Holland and Barrett is surprisingly untouched.

u75 was just their migration problems, seems to be working fine now.

  • anyone up for a sweepstake on where tonights trouble will be or will they all be tired after a hards days work and just head home for their tea ?

    Twitter says Ilford..

  • Loads of fucked up tweets mentioning #NWO.
People should stay in compulsory education until they're 18.

I knew it, I just knew it was the NWO, they want to fuck shit up so they can because for a reason or because of for something.

  • No no. You're thinking of NWA. They broke up years ago.

  • Oh. NWO the "wrasslers" not NWA the "rappers." Phoneme fail.

    I don't know - because Tottenham's a shithole?

  • what time did it all kick off in Brixton ?? i rode through about 11 all was peace full apart from a stop and search by hobgoblin, was surprised when i woke to news this morning. Strange U75 is down

The big stand-off, etc. on Effra Road kicked off not long after midnight. I'd just got back from dropping my motorbike off in Peckham and was on the 37. Stopped at the 2nd stop on Effra Road, just before the church and all was fine. Went inside my place, which overlooks the road, and 15 minutes later heard a lot of people outside walking south towards Currys/Halfords - around 2-300 according to reports. Lots of cars turned up to be loaded up and parked in every drive and then along Effra Road. Took the police about 45 minutes to come, by which time the looting was in full flow.

First attempt by the riot police to intervene, ended up with them being driven back to the juntion by St Matthews Church - with bottles, bricks and burning wheelie bins - whilst the looting continued. People were walking and driving out of the area with the booty, unhindered. Then the police blocked Effra Road at the other end by the Hoot and went in again in greater numbers, with a helicopter lighting things up. That led to a running battle in St Matthews Estate and a whole lot of fucking noise...and people escaping through Snowy's garden and ruining his peas.

Quietened down around 3.30, but was still rumbling. Similar stuff was running in parallel behind M&S off the high street, as I was chatting to a friend who lives in Nursery Road, by Ferndale Sports Centre.

There has been a lot of talk of rival gangs in the area, but I saw no sign of it from my rather good vantage point - and no one I spoke to last night in Brixton knew anything about it. The looters I saw didn't fill any particular stereotype - a real mixed bunch and seemingly very polite at the start - just free shopping. There were some nasty moments, but it has some way to go comapare to the old days.
