This in reaction to questions about why Sky and BBC weren't following closely what has been happening tonight.

While the idea of a media blackout seems rather far-fetched, it is nevertheless odd that many of the broadcast media are not covering this story quite as thoroughly as you might expect. One can imagine that a media blackout, or at least muted coverage, could perhaps be requested in order to minimise the glorification of violence, to reduce the ability of people to coordinate their attacks or join in, and to keep people calm. But would the media really agree to such a blackout?

Hmm yet the student riots were reported live all day by the Beeb and Sky? Not that I'm saying there is a blackout, but if it's violence related then surely they are fairly equal. I think it's more to do with how late at night it is, 1am is hardly prime time telly, would they bother sending out teams of reporters to cover this? Does that ever happen (actual question, does it?)? Also there are laws against doing live streams from helicopters after a certain time at night so they wouldn't be able to do any sweet aerial shots.

I know for a fact that John Snow likes to be tucked up by 10 and Trevor McDonald actually presented his final year on News At Ten from his bedroom (cleverly mocked up to look like the studio, of course).
