  • blah blah blah

will windows 8.1 sort it all out for me ?

You need Windows 9 for that. Here, let me install that for you..

  • Online means I can manage my accounts without having to worry about getting a ticket for parking in a bus lane.

If we bank online we can park in bus lanes? I never read the T&Cs - are there any other good extras?

  • but seriously anything we can do to update our computers and keep ourselves safe ?
not sure i can manage without my photo's of old english postbox porn ( not a euph )

Yes. Keep your antivirus up to date and stop clicking on links to "XXX POSTBOXES FOR FREE RIGHT NOW" and downloading attachments called hotpostbox.exe from random emails you receive.

  • so it will arrive via e-mail
ok, know your enemy ( tick )
checked my windows action center all seems present and correct ( defensive ramparts sorted ( tick )
    drawbridge up
    sharpen sword
    man the battlements

  • It is all safe, if you are not an idiot.

    A idiot.

  • whoops forgot to top the moat up and fill it with crocodiles / piranhas

I think it also arrives from other sources, like a link on a webpage - that's what I seem to be reading on the Torygraph article. TBH I haven't used a Windows machine in years so I've no idea how to protect the fucken things anymore.

  • A idiot.

    B idiot.

In these attacks, hackers use spam to deliver malware that changes DNS settings and installs a rogue Certificate Authority (CA).

LOL. So you have to infect your machine with malware first.
So you need to be an idiot

  • tentatively lowers drawbridge

  • Because when I moved to London I had the choice of moving bank to one with a branch near me or driving three miles to one with inadequate parking facilities. Online means I can manage my accounts without having to worry about getting a ticket for parking in a bus lane.

    Why not get a bus?

Yeah, or let an idiot use your machine.
It still has nothing to do with your choice of OS.

True but an idiot is more likely to fuck themselves up using windows than a mac.
If you think you may be in danger of being an idiot get yourself a mac.
That's why I use one. Or Linux

They're even bigger and harder to park than a car, why would I want to get one of them?

You could give someone some money to drive it for you. Maybe spread the cost with other people moving in the same direction? You could even get a 3rd party to handle ownership/etc so you don't have to worry about tax and insurance, just the small 'fare' for the distance you travel in said bus.

  • That'll never catch on.

  • I'm ahead of my time.

  • They're even bigger and harder to park than a car, why would I want to get one of them?

It's big and red, 2nd choice after fire engines.

  • BTW, Symantec have released a tool to specifically check for and remove this latest media stormed threat. Google for Symantec game over Zeus to find it.

Useful since the official site getsafeonline.org was totally hosed after the media blitz yesterday. As if that wasn't predictable.
