In the last day or two I have decided to try to spend less time on here, and part of that is to stick everyone on here who is a complete and utter prick on ignore
Yay! But how do you put yourself on ignore?

His body ricocheted between the walls of the crevasse, breaking his arm, five ribs, dislocating both shoulders and suffering severe cuts and internal bleeding before he landed on an ice ridge that he said was about 92 metres (300ft) from the bottom.

At least he didn't have to amputate a stuck arm...

The statement was moronic because it is factually incorrect, and obviously so.
Except that it is factually correct. Some markets are regulated and some are not. Bike couriers don't have their local pollies stepping in to make sure they're paid a competitive wage, neither do I, nor many other industries. Just picking two things that feature government regulation doesn't make my statement false. That would be moronic.

Yeah, I mean why would anyone, maybe female and a bit worse for wear, (or someone who loves them for that matter) want regulation for the person drving them home late at night?
Not like it is as important job at all. In fact if we're gonna deregulate properly and get prices right down why the fuck don't we abolish MOT and insurance requirements for minicabs?
After all the market is king and anything that gets in the way of a free market is EVIL. And if it drives fares down so far that drivers can't live on the money then so what. That's what we pay taxes for isn't, working tax credits for people whose jobs have been deregulated to a level where they can't even support their families?
You keep focusing on the vulnerable. What about people like me who are perfectly comfortable sitting in a car driven by anyone who has a driving license?
Doctors have an important job - I'm glad they are regulated. Taxi drivers, not so much. Even if black cabs disappeared, that doesn't stop other regulated, safe, lovely Jeez-approved options being available. But no, you've gone straight for the OMG! they're taking our black cabs option.
Why don't we just go straight for anarchy and whoever has the biggest guns wins! Whatever dude, you're clearly reactionary and failing to understand likely realities.

My hatred is of the moronic attitude that less regulation is a good thing. It is not. The answer is good regulation, not less regulation. And there is a lot to be said for high barriers to entry, partly because is helps maintain standards, but more importantly because it ensures that people have a lot to lose by falling beneath those good standards.
Yeah, all that regulation stops all those illegal minicabs driving around doesn't it?

Where on earth have I said that I am an expert on black cab and mini-cab regulation?
The only thing that I am an expert on in terms of this debate is that people who celebrate de-regulation each and every time they see it are generlly thick, rightwing arseholes who detest every single thing about the state until such time as they want a road or a hospital or a school for their kid, at which point they moan and moan that what is provided is not the best in the world.
I have repeatedly said that I am no fan of black cabs, but I am even less of a fan of the constant quest for de-regulation because very often the benefits are zero or negative.
Yeah, they sound totally like the people who'd want to use a neat little service like Uber. They're probably closet Nazis and child molesters too.
To be sure that you aren’t wasting your time you need to check before you start that you meet the eligibility criteria to apply for a PCO licence in the first place. The following are the points you need to meet.
- Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Have the right to live and work in the UK.
- Be the holder of a UK or other EEA driving licence for at least the last 3 years.
- Able to meet the medical requirements covered in the DVAL Group 2 standards. This will be confirmed in a medical assessment which you need to get done by a GP before sending your PCO application pack back to be processed. Anyone with health problems or disabilities should look at our pages on this subject for further information.
- Be able to read a map and work out routes. This is an essential part of the skills needed to be a private hire driver and you can show that you possess these skills when you undertake the topographical test which is part of the licensing process. If you aren’t confident about passing this test then you can get training done before the test.
- Be of good character. This might seem the most difficult point of all to prove but it simply involves getting a CRB check done. This is a criminal records checks and our page on the subject will show you the types of conviction which are going to cause you a problem in getting your licence sorted out.

I am making four main arguments -
(1) Good regulation is a good thing (obviously what is good regulation is subjective, but I would argue that for many industries it is fairly tough regulation.)
(2) I generally detest those who argue for de-regulation because they generally seem to me to have no interest in good regulation, their only interest is less regulation. Usually for their own selfish reasons, such as so that they can get home from a night out for 50p less. These people are, of course, the first people to moan when things are not exactly how they want them to be despite the fact that they were cheering loudest when de-regulation happened.
(3) A big part of good regulation, IMHO, is a high barrier to entry such as the knowledge. The reason for this is that, I believe, ensuring that people have a lot to lose by fucking up (in this example losing their licence to drive people round, perhaps because they were held responsible for a serious accident or assaulted someone) gives them a big incentive to stay on the straight and narrow. A black cabbie who loses his licence is throwing away both a good salary (due to the high barriers to entry) and two years of his life which he spent acquiring the knowledge. He has a lot to lose. Contrast that with someone who has spent a few hundred pounds and filled in a few forms in order to get a much less good salary - they have not got anywhere near as much to lose and therefore nowhere near the incentive to keep their nose clean.
(4) De-regulation often does not lead to greater choice. For example at the moment you can hire a mini-cab or get a black cab. The more mini-cabs encroach into the world of the black cab the further we are down the road to a world where we no longer have the choice, it will be one size fits all (inevitabaly the dumbed down, cheap as possible service)
I do not have a huge interest in the story (and was not really responding to the story). My initial post in relation to it (30152) (which I stand by) was more of a general rant about the attitudes of some people to de-regulation (in response to Greenhell trolling "anachronistic crybabies who will go the way of the red pillar postbox and the routemaster bus. so long suckas!" [I should have stuck him on ignore earlier!]) and continued by hippytroll [who I really should not have responded to - going to usercontrol panel now].

So J^^Z has decided everyone who disagrees with him is a troll and to be put on ignore? 24 down, several hundred thousand to go. It's the new members who might not know of his bullshit that I feel sorry for, maybe some kind of advisory tag should be activated.
Still, one step closer to my aspiration of having him locked in his own private forum where he can't annoy anyone else.

Not that I'm pro GBH or anything like that but you're spot on there.
The knowledge is amazing and, like, so cool but there is a whole country surrounding London that also has black cabs, up here they have a 10 week, £350 course that is their barrier to entry (fnar?) and other places are probably less.
On a separate note, at least now I have a name for what I do every night when "the wife" knocks me back, unfortunately I think that name will make things even more unsatisfying.
