Reminds me of a story about an American translator working in Iraq during the invasion. He memorised the names of all the prominent Shia saints so that if he get's captured he pleads to them loudly and therefore gets let off. Ends up being captured by a Sunni group who do even worse things to him because they see him as an American and Shia.
