The restraint, good humour and judgement the army have shown thoughout this situation can only bode well for their (hopefully temporary) stint at the helm.

Excellent video, Zizek is brilliant. Al-Jazeera really is streets ahead in terms of its analysis and coverage compared with the dumbed down news coverage we get from the BBC or Sky.

Fuck, Zizek wears me out. I'd like to love him, but I can't. He's the director of the course I'm doing now, but I struggle to find anything he says to be new or 'radical', as he and others claim.

Yeah he repeats himself, not to mention others a lot of the time, but it doesn't diminish what he says. A lot of the time I wish he'd be more specific instead of abstract when he addresses liberal audiences, a lot of the time he seems scared of using the C word like people can't handle it. Communism that is.
-
• #2360
He shouldn't have any fear of saying communism, as he's a communist, but I see why he might be put off. His books are full of calls for communism - that's his whole idea.
-
• #2361
He always refers to communism as 'a project'. I know he refers to it in that way because he is an advocate of eurocommunism, but he should be more unequivocal.

let's get this in perspective. at least no-one has poked camilla with a stick.

I rarely lol, but I did then
-
• #2366
That's weird; when you hover the cursor over lol it says 'lots of love'.
-
• #2367
Ha, DK having a bit of fun there I think.
Egypt has gone from a civilian dictatorship to a military dictatorship. That's the sad truth.
-
• #2368
I thought only old people believed it to mean 'lots of love'. I have heard stories of grannies sending condolence messages and adding lol at the end.
-
• #2369
It's if they put 'lulz' at the end you start to worry.
Also, if they start to post on 4chan.

I remember cringing alot when I said 'lol' to my dad over instant messanger, and he replied "lots of love to you too". The worst was the thought that he would have thought I would just randomly tell him it in the middle of a sentance

Just seen it on the London news but can't find a link for it - the US have released Mohammed Baba, directly implicated in the training of the 7/7 bombers and linked to Al-Qaeda, after he served only 4 out of his 70 year sentence, due to his 'extraordinary co-operation'. Takes the breath away. One of the parents of the 7/7 victims interviewed said it had been done discreetly, but why isn't this worthy of the national news, and why can't I find a single mention of it on the sodding internet?

Gah, makes my blood boil. Really, supposed US impunity makes me sick. Cheers though.

It's very freaky when you start trying to look for info on the subject though.
The net is super quiet about this story, which really should be making the headlines.
Am I having the piss taken out of me?
