  • Why not Every day bogota why only Sunday

  • Why not every Sunday? why only Sky Ride in September?

  • Why not Every day bogota why only Sunday

The city has a very comprehensive network of bike lanes.

  • Something like that DFP is a brilliant idea.

I'd love to see that trialled in the UK.

  • Was it not the Mayor of Bogata that was quoted as saying;
"A developed country is not one where the poor have cars, it is one where the rich take public transport"

He also banned billboard and streetspace advertising throughout the city IIRC - edit - Nope that was Sao Paulo
Sounds like my kind of guy.

Rear wheel dynamo to charge USB/removable battery. Might be of interest to the tourers/audaxers?

That look like a great idea, more tourer than audaxers I reckon as the latter tend to be moving all the time.

I wonder how long it take to charge it fully? the only disadvantage is that you can't charge a device while in motion like a dynamo set-up.

Would totally get that for the next tour.

  • The whole point is it charges while you are moving or still, what you talking 'bout scoble?

  • Charging a device while moving, which after reading much further down there is an option for that.

I'm definitely sold on the idea.

  • That's a really nice concept and it doesn't look terrible.

    Water resistant to IP-4, too.

  • I think segregated lanes would be EXCELLENT for the larger roads that connect different towns/cities. You know the bigger A roads with higher speed limits, loads of HGV's and stuff. Even motorways.

I think unmotorised traffic has the right to the convenience of this very direct straight networks that motorised traffic has.

Inside towns and cities, seperate lanes would absolutely suck balls.

Bikes are allowed on A roads.

How much resistance does the Atom add?
The resistance is very small, and is proportional to how large your charging load is. At full generating capacity, it is akin to riding with your tires at 70 psi instead of 90 psi, or pedaling up a 0.3% grade. In our use around town, it is very difficult to tell that it's on the bike.

It really does look great. I'm quite tempted to buy on of the demos. Although I'd still like to have someone else confirm how the drag feels.

  • If it's fine to ride a cheap dynamo hubs that feel quite draggy when you pick up the wheel and spun it (which come to a complete stop after one rotation), then the drag on that rear hubs is the last thing you'd need to worry about.

I know they are, but it kinda sucks riding on them. It would be better to let cyclists on the hard shoulder of a motorway than on A roads sharing the same road space with traffic that doesn't expect you there.

  • Building additional segregated paths isn't the correct course of action.
If driver's don't expect cyclists to be where they are legally allowed it isn't the cyclist who is at fault.

I ride on A roads a lot. There's the odd fuckwit but generally it feels safer than the constant ped/door/fuckwit threat you get riding in town.

I've ridden on motorways too and don't see any problem but whatever, them's the rules.

    This.

In Holland they get the hump if you're not using the bike lanes. That's not too bad over there where there are miles of them but over here it's gonna kick shit up whenever we want to use the roads.. OUR roads.

  • Last time I rode on a motorway I got a police escort to my destination, which was much quicker than using other roads and they provided cover at every slip road to ensure my safety. 10/10, would recommend.

  • Fuck riding on motorways, people can barely drive on them properly as it is and some muppet going 50mph causes problems already. A roads go everywhere as it is and are much more suitable for cyclists.

  • Police escort does sound good, though. How many shops did you need to hold up first, 6pt?

To be fair most of the people who don't know how to drive on motorways end up staying in the outside lane so if you stay on the hard shoulder you should be ok.

  • Hard shoulders are covered in more shit than most cycle lanes, you'd be stopping to change tubes every half a mile, at least the emergency phone would be nearby.

  • Round here the hard shoulders have all been replaced by another lane anyway, so MORE traffic can queue up.

In my experience of A roads they are exactly the same. Ive been on one that actually had some feint bike lane markings (which annoyingly stopped whenever there was a slip road). But it was all coated in shards of glass and car debris.

Not a good place to get a flat, in many parts there is no verge to escape to/walk.
