  • The PM is considering temporary withdrawal from the European Convention on Human rights- just to get Abu Qatada on the plane to Jordan.

Fascinating what lengths they want to go to.

  • well there's probably quite a bit of oil at stake ... there usually is in these trystes with middle eastern countries

  • :(

  • Noooooooo

  • Someone else will pick it up, surely? Please?

  • Netflix?

  • I'd say "utter cunt" instead of "UKIP leader" although I guess they're somewhat synonymous.

I agree with you though - at least he appears to have some conviction and he does occasionally make some good points.

I like having him involved in debates - it keeps the others on their toes.

"Personally, I would have let Northern Rock go bust," he said.

Because it worked in the States for Lehman didn't it...

I agree though, he's bad news for Cameron and the enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that.

My uncles on my Dad's side all live in rural Shropshire and think he's great. Underestimate him at your peril - I think a lot of people outside London have lost faith in conventional politicos and like the cut of his jib.

  • But why is he getting so much fucking attention?
They haven't got a single seat in parliament yet I feel like I see him more then my own parents!

The Greens on the other hand have MP's locally and nationally yet when was the last time any of them were on the today Programme, or PM, or Question Time or Newsnight etc etc.

I was talking to a friend who theorised that conservative collusion in the media is purposefully granting him excessive exposure in order to drag the whole of UK politics to the right and prevent the current Tory ideology looking extreme.

    Bang on the money.

The other thing to note is that he's an egotistical jerk, which the greens generally aren't (I'm sure that there are some that are, but their leadership seems quite quiet). Also UKIP have a larger membership I believe. The Greens have a relatively small membership (Wikpedia says 16,000 members for the Greens vs 25,000 for UKIP).

  • 5.03 carat blue diamond in the aution at bonhams shortly
they're expecting a world record price per carat for a diamond

and why do pearls cost so blooming much
a nice pearl choker sold for 20,000g ? are they really that expensive ?

  • yeah we all know de beers is a cartel and have been fixing the price of diamonds for decades
well at least there are mugs out there who aren't aware and provide them with a nice profit every year

good luck to them and their pebbles

But digging them out of the ground causes all sorts of environmental and political bother, also. It's ultimately futile. Having said that, what isn't?

Riding your bike! Also, reproduction. In that order, I'd say.

  • Reproduction whilst riding your bike?

    Psh.

  • Front page of the Times is hailing it's "Cities fit for cycling" campaign as being about to deliver a huge success for cyclists, it then lists the main goals, including fully segregated cycling routes, which I have to admit I had an immediate reaction against- I just don't think that partial segregation will improve matters.

The rest looked ok, I suppose.

I think segregated lanes would be EXCELLENT for the larger roads that connect different towns/cities. You know the bigger A roads with higher speed limits, loads of HGV's and stuff. Even motorways.

I think unmotorised traffic has the right to the convenience of this very direct straight networks that motorised traffic has.

Inside towns and cities, seperate lanes would absolutely suck balls.

The biggest issue is the maintenance of such path, unless you've a decent maintenance company that look after the lane like in Copenhagen, it'll never be as clean or smooth as the road.

I agree that unmotorised traffic should have that for the convenience, but there's still plenty of small (old) road that get you there, least it's not like Spain where they build motorway out of old road.

The media in the US did this to Ron Paul. They were doing extremely well in the run up to the election but the media shunned any attention to them more and more, in the end I guess people started to believe he wasn't a realistic candidate.

The way the media, particularly television portrays a smaller party like the greens would have an huge effect. I reckon if the way the press portrayed them was serious enough, they could be as big as the lib dems.

  • I think Bogota in Columbia has the right attitude;

Every Sunday from 7am to 2pm major roadways throughout the city are closed to motorized traffic. Instead, the roads fill up with literally millions of bikers, joggers, and roller skaters. The event is so popular that an estimated 2 million residents (around 30% of the cities total population) come out to participate every week.

In addition they used bike specific roads to link up all the small, poor towns and villages surrounding the city instead of building them roads for cars and buses. This has has enabled everyone to travel for work/business, education and more - cheaply for both the citizens and authorities. Massively improving quality of life all round, without putting greater congenstion to central road networks by adding more cars and buses.
