  • Not sure wether to put this in here or in the Belfast subforum,

£50 fine for not wearing a lid.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-12319938

  • dont worry bout it, will get kicked out anyway,
Ireland arent exactly flush right now for spunking money on enforcing this are they.

  • Northern not Southern.

Testing ground for the resk of the UK.

  • most unlikely in England as this government genuinely seems to be keen to promote cycling
Here's a link to the white paper Creating growth Cutting carbon

  • punitive action is a crude and backward way to run things, which rarely get's the desired result, and often exacerbates the problem (real or percieved).

If instead they made some inititive to get people wearing helmets more (the argument regarding their actual benefit aside) then you'd only increase the number of cyclists. WIN WIN

for example, some sort of tax break for bicycle helmets, similar to cycle to work scheme, but with less bureaucracy and just helmet based

  • yes, but what about edward scoble?
    journo's these days....

  • Today's news seems to be Graeme Obree:

Graeme Obree reveals he is gay.

    From that site:

    arrhythmiarules likes this.
Be the first to dislike this.

Bit of a taunt I thought

  • My dad just told me that there is a feature on BBC breakfast on cyclists wearing headcameras.

    Now glued to the tv

  • Due to be repeated around 8.15-8.20am

  • I saw half of it before I had to leave. Same old youtube videos we've discussed at length, but it was nice to see the road ragers being portrayed as crazy idiots on the road rather than the cyclists.

Due to be repeated around 8.15-8.20am

  • Don't worry- the journalist from the Beeb made sure to say "but surely all cyclists jump red lights and ride on the pavements?" to the CTC guy.

    ffs

  • anyone found this on iplayer?

  • Do we really trust the Daily Mail as a source of news, especially when related to EU proposals?

  • Do we really trust the Daily Mail as a source of news, especially when related to EU proposals?

    my landlord does,
    he never leaves the house.

  • It seemed to me like the CTC fellow was trying desperately to get across the very complicated point that while headcameras are understandable and could be useful for court cases, we really want to steer the situation so that we don't actually NEED cameras on us all the time.

Or at least, that's what I was thinking he ought to say. Maybe I was projecting.

  • BBC report on head cams was a bit rubbish really. No real debate, no real point made, and I left the house thinking "I bet they have a load of people writing in to complain about cyclists now".

    Anyone see it after 7am?

  • Cunty Martin gets a repreive for a few minutes. Ladies and gents, meet your new enemy:

  • Adam Rayner, hmm. I'm going to restrain myself from making the obvious comment about him. Suffice to say I'm sure like many people he'd benefit from being an active transport user.

I thought Zoe Williams was quite good, she made some good points while remaining quite rational and sensible sounding and kept it friendly.

Not sure how heated the debate actually was.

  • Yeah, they cut it when she told him that motorists should keep their eyes open and stop killing cyclists. Pity
