At the risk of a massive (racist!) generalisation it sounds as if SA cops aren't very used to have wealthy murder suspects with quality lawyers defending them and challenging the evidence presented.
The testosterone thing is just ridiculous. Oh, and Mr. Botha was personally tramping around the crime without shoe covers on contaminating evidence. And the defence's own forensics team found a bullet in the toilet that the police forensics sweep didn't!
The whole thing is a fucking mess SA popo seem utterly clueless and OP defence tore Botha to shreds.. And this is just the hearing for his bail!

Cop is not a massively professional job in SA. V poorly paid and resourced. It's mainly a case of cruising round looking for people in nice cars speeding and touching them for some baksheesh.
I had a chauffeur in Jo'burg (totally I did) tell me he used to be a cop - they sat in the station house getting pissed, then went out and cruised for tickets. One night, he got called to a crash where a drunk driver had killed a mother and baby. They took the miscreant to the polis doctor for his blood test, and the doc said, 'I'll book him for you, but I know you're more drunk than he is'. He decided then he needed to get out, became a chauffeur and now earns more. /csb etc

My cousin's husband (I don't think that there is such a thing as a cousin-in-law) was a police officer in Pretoria before emigrating to the UK and eventually becoming a member of the fuzz over here. He is not very complimentary about the police in South Africa (understatement) and makes it sound like a boys club with lots of guns and the occasional fire fight thrown in.
Also when I visited South Africa it was pointed out to me by a local that ALL of the police stations had signs on that said "These premises are protected by ADT monitored alarms and armed response." The local I was speaking to held this up as an example of how unprofessional the police are.

What he said was not designed to discriminate against the nurse or any Filipinos, it was a deeply inappropriate off the cuff remark, nothing more. The guy doesn't actually discriminate against anyone as he is capable of making such remarks aimed at anyone irrespective of their racial background / culture / religion / health.
The only thing I can say in his defence (and that of all royals) is it is not his fault that we are so backward in this country that we have not killed the fucking lot of them, or at least taken all their money and declared a republic.
Neither is it his fault that we are so backward that we give them one iota of attention. AFAIAC they should not be mentioned unless it is as part of a clear policy of trying to get rid of them.

I'm not trying to be the defender of vegetarianism on the internet, as I honestly don't care what anyone eats, but this point is stupid. The discussion was in relation to Kev saying eating cheap meat means you have to acknowledge your food will be pumped full of hormones, offal and gristle. None of these things are in vegertarian food, especially not if you make your own food (we don't all live off Quorn and Linda McCartneys). Pointing out that some animals will die in the process of harvesting food that vegetarians doesn't make any point and doesn't make the food non-vegetarian.
Actually, many vegetables, grains & legumes contain phytoestrogen and other substances which have an endocrinological effect. In fact the absence of animal products alone will have an effect. And this is just the natural characteristics of food crops, not the effects of pesticides and such.
UK meat industry is not allowed to use hormones.
Next, there is absolutely nothing wrong with offal & gristle. Organ meats are the most nutriticious parts of an animal, also the gristle/fat is the richest source of calories and a very healthy source of cooking fat which does not increase demand for seed oils (which are actually bad for you and bad for the environment).
Are you suggesting that we should waste half of an animal? eating only lean muscle tissue? Does that make ecological or ethical sense?
Seed oil products like rape require some of the largest quantities of chemical spraying of all crops. Growing this stuff guarantees death of entire ecosystems iand plenty of pollution in the very large monoculture fields they are planted in.
As with most crops, even organic ones. You need to kill enormous amounts of wildlife to make it work.
Lastly, Dublinkev said they were putting stuff like Sawdust in meat. This is just not true.
