  • I don't think it's that alien really. There are plenty of theocracies in which the majority defend a religious text as infallible, and live by them. It's just America has 2 such texts, the bible and the constitution.

  • He's right though. Any discussion in the media about that has been framed in inflammatory terms or not at all, so why engage with them.

  • Film looks like a shit-one-liner-celebrity-glamour-fest, though.

It's only in the mid 50's that they decided to put "One Nation under God" moving the "indivisble" away.

    Odd how the Constitution changed.

  • Its very difficult for British/Europeans not to come across as smarmy and 'know it all' when talking to Americans about gun crime. The US position is so alien to anyone outside that they'll never understand each other.

Unfortunately the inability to communicate extends beyond just guns.

"Well she's very polite I'll give her that."

I wonder if this is another one of those many instances in which the portrait artist essentially stabs the sitter in the back by exploiting the lack of an understanding of art that one seems to find in prominent sitters quite generally. I think Adrian Searle has got it quite wrong here:

Far from it being just bland, this portrait makes her look vile and ridiculous at the same time, which is quite an achievement.
