  • Any particular reason for having such a big bottle?

  • Wild camping ...

  • Is that a eph?

I sort of meant is it pure water storage. Or do you just have a desire for a 1.5 pop bottle? Because you could always use something like a platypus to hold water else where (they're good for camping and stow away small when you're done.

Or you could just pop an extra bottle cage underneath your downtube or via a bar mount thingy.

    What about this one:

  • I can recommend that as it worked brilliant for touring with different bottle shape and sizes, I went wild camping and having that size mean I have something to waste as well as drink, 1.5/2litres is enough for a single night.

The only drawback is the top clamp have a limited amount of fore/aft position but that's all.

    Skully, want to borrow mine?

  • Ed, that's a lovely offer! Thanks, I'll get in touch when I'm nearer fixing a date for my first trip.

Got the triple and new mechs on today, seemed odd that I had to mount the spider on the inside of the big ring, but meh, it works! Yipee.

  • ps thanks Hugo for googling that for me! I'd rather not use chain reaction though ...

  • Keep meaning to post a pic of newly built EG Bates, awesome riding to work on this beast. Still some fettling to finish, like brake levers position is a bit wrong, maybe tidy up my dyno cabling a bit better. Managed to build chainset OK (had to mount the crank inside the big ring, usually it's outside for this crank I think), the granny is working like a dream - new lowest gear of 27t chainring x 34t sprocket is something to behold! Not that happy that I've lost the wire handle to adjust tension on a friction lever, and that my two bigger chainrings (gah TA cyclotouriste, not easy to find) are a bit worn.

The proper fly in the ointment is a bent deraillieur hanger. I haven't been able to fix it, don't have a vise. Means my lovely campag racing triple is slowly being damaged every ride.

Lowrider bags are a total revelation for me. So stable.

  • C'mon then.... Pics!

  • Skully, spa cycles sell NOS TA chainring, worth checking them out?

  • get some pictures up skully!

  • Shame I didn't take pics showing the phil on Sputnik on the back, it's a beaut. Nearly sorted. Some pedal fiddling to be done, levers moved a bit ... yada

Reynolds Super Touriste Awesome tubeset just so lovely to ride.
    Newly fitted:

  • Down tube shifting for pros.
    ; )
    Nice build.

  • looking great skully.

  • sputnik, good rim choice, bike looks fit for purpose matey

  • ^rims built up beautifully, so solid. Thanks Digger for tools ... Yeah it should get me and camping gear out soon as well as commutes... ^^ta! ^^^Love having a triple, would have baulked at getting all new gear £££

  • Dude, you build the best bike! the Carradice Super C really finish it off, I got a pair of Super C rear I can sell to you for cheap?

  • Ed: certainly very interested ... I have some Carradice rear bags, but old ones with crappier fixings, which could do nicely on Ms Skully's Mercian when we tour together.

  • Also a kick stand, but front bags mean you need two ... Basta!

    Looking good.

Click Stand show bikes front loaded with their folding bike stand on their website.

Plus I'm sure I remember someone rating them on another thread here.

It got those german sounding fitting for the rack, kraus?

  • Good work skully!

I've got this, if you have something you want to trade?

    Sartorially suitable, I think!

  • That Bates

Looks rather like the one I sold on here about 3 years ago?

It was too big for me- hence the sale..

It looks like its going to be used for its intended purpose..

  • @pat
Yes Please!! I will have a think on what I could offer as a swap. Anything you're on the hunt for? I have a nib Brooklyn rain jacket doing nothing, too big for me.

    @Peter
Although these silver & black EG Bates tourers seem fairly common (I've seen a couple offered here since I got this), you're right this one was once yours.

  • @ Ed yes, the newer fixings are much better, they're called Rixen & Kaul (sp?) or something like that. The older ones I have on my bags are only good for a certain rack I am still using (for my Yates tagalong) but are otherwise a pain in the proverbials. So once my kid grows out of the tagalong I'd probably get rid of them.

PM me a price for your Super Cs?

  • That's the one, just missing the bit on the bottom, which you can get as spare from SJS.

  • Cool. Just got a pm from you.
